My DVD recorder won't play my CDs

-   My Father in-law has an LG RH1999H DVD Recorder that plays DVD but very rarely cds says (no disc) I tried 20 different cds only one worked then tried same cd again but did not work. Any Ideas? -   caspier13

-   Well, here we go! RH199H Unit, 1 mth old, is now unable to recognise and play dvd's.... ' NO DISC' - even with ones watched prior. Over the last week or so, the dvd's started freezing. Checked out the discs as thought due to scratches, but alas it seems to be the death of the unit. Excellent! Long weekend and no unit to record and watch. Trip to return unit and the warranty nightmare.-   Guest

-   I have the same or worse with an LG RH277 dvd/hd recorder. It will no longer recognise commercial music CDs or any other type of CD either, even though it played several music CDs and data CDs without problem a week ago. The unit is only a month old. I have tried factory reset, and removing the power overnight without any result - I suspect the DVD Drive is faulty and will be returning it to the retailer for warranty tomorrow.

Coincidentally I just puchased a PC internal LG DVD super-multi DVD burner for my PC which uses the same drive chipset, and it had the same problem not recognising CDs (but fine with DVD media) from day 1. Also going back to the retailer for warranty.
