Pointer problems i have a toshiba satellite laptop and when I click on an icon on the desktop it highlights all previous icons on the screen. this means that if i double click on say the explorer icons it may also open the previous ten icons as well. do you know of a solution - could it be hotkey problems or corrupt keyboard. The same problem occurs on both the laptop and remote keypad Thanks you

On a Windows 8 machine you have two places to put an icon for a program.

1. The start menu on windows 8 which is the first set of icons you see.

2. The Desktop, which is like the Windows 7 desktop and you put a shortcut here.
This is easy to do as you right click with the mouse and pick "new" then "shortcut".
Then pick browse and pick out the program file you want to run when the icon is pressed.
Then press "OK" and it is stored on the desktop.

On the start menu you have to go to the bottom of the icons to the down arrow.
Press the down arrow and it will take you to the "Apps", which is the list of installed program.
Then scroll sideways to the right until you see the program you want on the screen.
Pick the icon of the program you want on the start menu, with the right hand key of the mouse.
On the menu that pops up, pick "pin to start menu", and its done.
You can re-arrange the icons on the start menu by dragging them around with the mouse.

My monitor is black but i can still see the desktop somewhat. what could be wrong with it?

Your lcd's inverter has gone bad. Google: "Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 Inverter". They're about 20 bucks. Then to replace Unscrew or pry apart your screen bezel and it will probably be under or above your lcd. Then just unplug and replace.

My desktop icons are highlighted in colors and wen i put a wallpaper the color comes on top of it how to remove it ?

If you want to hide your icons, right click on your desktop(your screen). A window will appear and put your pointer on view. Another window will open and at the bottom you will see "show desktop icons " with a check mark. Click on this and your icons will be hidden. To get them back do it again.

Accidentally pressed multiple keys on the keyboard and now everything is bigger than normal. its not zoomed in because the whole desktop still fits on the screen. all of the desktop icons are now bigger....

Hi,
Right Click the Mouse with your pointer on the screen
Click on Properties
You shall see a display window
Click on Settings
Screen Resolution... Slid to the Less Pixels
Click Apply Button
That should solve your problem

To Disable the Pointer Device, go to, Control Panel, click (Mouse) in the Hardware and Sound category. Go to, Device Settings, in the (Devices) block, click on, and Highlight; the item you want to (disable) this being the Pointer Device. Click the Disable button, just below. Be sure to (Click) on the Apply button, click OK. You may need to Update Drivers. Click on Hardware, click Properties, click, on Driver. If the, Update Driver (block) is not Grayed-out click Update Driver, click (OK), this will ensure that the application take effect. Note: Restarting the computer will configure system changes in the computer applications to prevent errors, and to finalize the (Installing / Uninstalling) of programs, and or (Enabling / Disabling) of Hardware. I hope this Fix it.

It could be that the screen is at the correct resolution, but the icons are just set to display larger (Vista allows this). Right-click on the desktop (NOT over any icons), and select "View". there you can select the size of the desktop icons.
