On a Windows 8 machine you have two places to put an icon for a program.

1. The start menu on windows 8 which is the first set of icons you see.

2. The Desktop, which is like the Windows 7 desktop and you put a shortcut here.
This is easy to do as you right click with the mouse and pick "new" then "shortcut".
Then pick browse and pick out the program file you want to run when the icon is pressed.
Then press "OK" and it is stored on the desktop.

On the start menu you have to go to the bottom of the icons to the down arrow.
Press the down arrow and it will take you to the "Apps", which is the list of installed program.
Then scroll sideways to the right until you see the program you want on the screen.
Pick the icon of the program you want on the start menu, with the right hand key of the mouse.
On the menu that pops up, pick "pin to start menu", and its done.
You can re-arrange the icons on the start menu by dragging them around with the mouse.

My monitor is black but i can still see the desktop somewhat. what could be wrong with it?

Your lcd's inverter has gone bad. Google: "Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804 Inverter". They're about 20 bucks. Then to replace Unscrew or pry apart your screen bezel and it will probably be under or above your lcd. Then just unplug and replace.

Accidentally pressed multiple keys on the keyboard and now everything is bigger than normal. its not zoomed in because the whole desktop still fits on the screen. all of the desktop icons are now bigger....

Right Click the Mouse with your pointer on the screen
Click on Properties
You shall see a display window
Click on Settings
Screen Resolution... Slid to the Less Pixels
Click Apply Button
That should solve your problem

To Disable the Pointer Device, go to, Control Panel, click (Mouse) in the Hardware and Sound category. Be sure to (Click) on the Apply button, click OK. You may need to Update Drivers. Click on Hardware, click Properties, click, on Driver. If the, Update Driver (block) is not Grayed-out click Update Driver, click (OK), this will ensure that the application take effect. Note: Restarting the computer will configure system changes in the computer applications to prevent errors, and to finalize the (Installing / Uninstalling) of programs, and or (Enabling / Disabling) of Hardware. I hope this Fix it.

My laptop's (Toshiba Satellite A105-S361)desktop doesn't bring the desktop icons and the task bar after I loaded AVG 9 antivirus software. Why is that? Would you mind give me a solution, pls?

The desktop icons and the task bar would generally dissappear if you have a virus on the PC. However, sometimes improper software installations may cause undesired results like we have right now. Instead of trying uninstalling anything, try restoring the system to a previous point using system restore.
