Question about Iomega 33914 Storage 160gb Ego Silver Portable USB 2.0 Hard Drive

I purchased a hard drive 2.5 160GB portable hard drive and it was faulty with in the year of purchase and it was replaced with a new one and was swapped on the 22-8-08 and this one is faulty. It was bought through my mac on Flinders street in Melbourne and they are saying it is out of warranty cause you don't receive a new warranty even though it was a new replacement. I am not happy as they wont do anything. I need to speak to someone from iomega so I can sort out this asap. What Australian Head Office can I call without paying for support?

most likely a faulty hard drive that needs replacement. If a sector goes bad which they do in time the hard drive in a non working unit. In the past I replace my hard drives every 5 years for they tend to wear out such as yours. I also purchased another XP program so I can download it on my new hard drives

If your computer still works with its internal hard drive, I would say the issue is with the external drive. Try to backup data, then run check disk on it with the option to repair/fix errors it finds. If no luck, try to completely reformat it. If the external drive was purchased as new August of this year, it should have its own warranty of at least a year. This means, if it is faulty, you can get a warranty replacement for it. Just provide the order number or sales invoice number for the drive as a proof of your purchase in the event that you need to get a replacement for it.

Why wont my Western Digital WD Passport 250GB Portable Drive 250 GB Hard Drive work?

Several possibilities:

* bad USB port in your computer (try another USB port)
* messed-up copy of Windows (try connecting to a different computer)
* damaged USB cable between computer and the Passport (replace it)
* bad disk-drive inside the enclosure (replace it)
* bad USB-to-disk-drive adapter (buy a new "empty" enclosure)

Check the warranty on it, to see if W.D. will replace it, at minimal cost to you. If the warranty has expired, W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- buy a new Passport through their web-site, and you qualify for a discount on your purchase.

PC nor reading external WD (Western Digital) USB hard drive

Try connecting it to another computer, to see if your computer is the problem.

Try a different USB cable between the unit and your computer.

If it is still under warranty (one year?) then contact W.D. to get an RMA (Return Materials Authorization) -- then, ship the unit to them, for repair/replacement.

If the warranty has expired, open the case, disconnect the USB-to-disk-drive adapter, and connect the disk-drive as a "slave" drive in some desktop computer, to see if it can be properly "detected".

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- give them the serial-number from the disk-drive, and you get a good discount on the purchase of a new Passport from their web-site.

If you look at the Power supply box there should be a green light. If you unplug the cord and plug it in again it might just blink then stay our.. it is a common problem with these WD Elements. If it is newer, then it is under warranty.

Try the place where you purchased the drive. If they don't stock the replacement cables, they should be able to either order one for you or tell you where you can order one directly.

The exact same problem

When a hard drive makes a clicking sound, it is most likely faulty.
You can try ti\o format it and if it doesn't respond then it is dead You need to purchase a new one.
