What is the difference in temperature controllers between a fridge & a freezer? Can they be interchanged?

It really depends on the brand, model, style, etc of your unit. most units with conventional knob controls only measure the temperature in one compartment and control the other with airflow. If you have computer control, then we start talking about thermistors and you cant tell by looking at them if they have the same specs. If you can give some more info on what you are trying to do, maybe I can point you in the right direction

Refrigerator and freezer temperature controller can-not be interchanged (normally). They have a designed range of operation. Such as...say the refrigerator thermostat has a range of 45 degress at the warm setting and 33 degress set at maximum cold. This would never work for the freezer. Some electronic devices have ways to change their setting range but that is specific for each control.

What is the ideal setting for fridge on Bosch KGN34VW20G

Hello John;

My name is Peter. I am a retired Sears service technician. The freezer temperature should be between -2 & + 2 degrees F. The fresh food section should be between 35-40 degree F.
Pick up a inexpensive temperature gauge with a steel shank. Place the temperature gauge in the freezer center. Do not make contact with any food product. Allow 20 minutes and read the gauge. Be quick the temperature on the gauge will drop quickly when you remove. Adjust the temperature control knob according until you reach the desired setting. Repeat this process as necessary. Do the same for the fresh food section.
You only have one source of cooling; the evaporator coil and fan in the freezer. The freezer will meet it's temperature setting first before it opens the fresh food section damper.
A balanced system will save on your electrical bills. The compressor will kick in only when demand is met. Your compressor should not be running continuously.

Why do I need a separate temperature control for my fridge and freezer?

For the same reason you want them at different temps.
Older single controls would affect both temperatures. So if you wanted the ice cream to be a little softer, the milk spoiled. If you wanted the meat to stay frozen longer, the lettuce got iced.

Re: Lights and fan problems for Sub Zero 532 Side by side refrigerator.

First of all if you're condensor motor is controlled by electronic control board varyable speed type you might want to think about looking at replacing the control board. But first I would take a voltmeter test to see if the fan motor is getting enough voltage. If the voltage varies with the temperature inside the box then you have a controller. If the voltage remaind constant (120) and the motor still slows down yoy have a bad fan motor. As far as you're like the problem goes the only thing I can think of besides loose wires or bad switch.would be if it operated off the same control board.

Fridge section not cooling enough but freezer OK

Is the fan blowing in the freezer section? Also, check to see if you have airflow thru the damper (vent) in the frig section.

it can be a defective thermistor,a defective cold control or compressors short cycling(not running long enough) or the evaporatorin the freezer is frozen up and cant keep temps constant

Freezer is good. Fridge is not cold enough. It is on 7. MTF2195

Refrigeration half of fridge does not have a cooling unit. It gets its cold from the freezer. There is a door between the fridge and the freezer which is controlled by the fridge temperature control knob. Often times the connection is purely mechanical. There may also be a fan to push the air through the door which is controlled by the fridge temperature knob which is actually a thermostat.

A bad thermostat. Your cooling is out of control it is the thermostat that controls the frig. The thermostat is behind the knob that lets you turn up or down the temp. Most of the time two screws to take loose behind the knob. It should just pull off.

Refrigerator temperature running too high

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.
