Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I need to pick a Sony receiver and want upconversion, integration with my Bravia TV XBR4 46" and PS3. I want at least 90 watts per channel and hopefully a GUI screen on front to make it easy to use. Since Sony has model after model with out any rhyme or reason I am lost. There seem to be some good values out there so I want to narrow down to 3 late models

Hi,

Selecting the right Audio Video Receiver or Amplifier is always a challenge. You have to make the right decision for your needs.

These three Sony receivers all meet your criteria. You might want to search the different review sites for in depth feedback on each model before you decide on which one to go for.

1) Sony STR-DA6400ES

  • 7.1 channel High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI™) receiver with 120W x7 (840W) total power output
  • Built-in upscaler generates a 1080p signal via HDMI™
  • Retails between $1500 and $2500
Currenty $1589 from camerakings.com

2) Sony STR-DA5400ES
  • 7.1 channel A/V receiver with 100W x 7 (700W) total power output
  • Built-in upscaler generates a 1080p signal via HDMI
  • Retails between $1050 and $1700
Currenty $1049 from buydig.com

3) Sony STR-DA2400ES
  • 7.1 channel High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI™) receiver with 100W x 7 (700W) total power output
  • Built-in upscaler generates a 1080p signal via HDMI
  • Retails around $800
Currently $800 direct from Sony

All of these receivers provide integrated control over your BRAVIA TV.

At the end of the day I have found these Sony receivers are all comparable in terms of their sound output. Personally I would pay attention to the users reports on sites like audioholics.com and reviews on CNET before making a final decision.

The other major factor of course is price and there are certainly some bargains around if you shop around. The top end 6400 ES is certainly good value at that price from camera kings. If your budget does not allow then you might look at the others I mentioned as their functionality still meets your needs.

Hope this helps. Please do rate this answer. Many Thanks.

I have done an autotune on my sony bravia tv but am not getting channel 9 sbs. the television in the bedroom is a smaller digital tv and that picks up all the channels. the two tv's are connected

Is the splitter an amplified splitter or not? Have you tried the channel search when you connect the antenna directly to the TV? (Disconnect the cables from the splitter and use a coupler to join them together.) Tuners do vary in their sensitivity. For digital signals, your TV should report the signal strength. This is often under the Settings sub-menu. Some TVs will give this information in the Channel Edit option.

If the straight through connection gives a better signal, check your antenna direction and try a different splitter. Amplification will often help; however, when my amplified splitter was damaged the less sensitive tuner lost a number of channels that the other TV received. (Looking at the signal strength, one TV was getting adequate signal with one bar out of 8. The other needed at least 4 bars to process the signal.)

I hope this helps.

Even when I receive HDTV chanels, the display reflects only 480.

No adjustments can be made on the TV since the channels are being pick up with the resolution they are being broadcasted. Once the TV tunes to a digital channel(s), it will show the resolution to be either 480i, 720p or 1080i

Sony Bravia does not see my digital channels

Hi buck lite,
Your cable company is telling the truth, you have digital cable. When auto scanned for digital channels the tv is lookig for OTR(over the air) signals. These are broadcast signals you will need an antenna to receive. Depending where you are and the type of antenna you use you probably could pick up some digital channels. Let me know if this helps and please rate this solution. Lone99star
