Question about Samsung DVD-HD960 DVD Player

1 Answer

Acts like fuse is blown, but the fuse is good

I have 120 VAC down stream of the fuse, but my HD960 acts just like the fuse is blown (or like it's not even plugged in).

Worked great up until now.

Naturally, everything inside looks super - no sign of anything getting hot.

My Panasonic blu ray player goes back to standby mode ever time I try to start it, What should I do?

Hi Bruce

Most electronic equipment these days use a switch mode power supply, not the old transformer. This takes your AC 240/120 volt wall power to the necessary low DC voltages required by the actual electronic circuits.
They also have current sensors in case of circuit problems so that the shut down if a problem is sensed.
These switch mode supplies use a lot of Electrolytic Capacitors which are prone to age. They often Leak at the base or bulge at the top or even pop (blow).
If your up to it.... you could open up the box and check for leaky or blown Caps. They can be cheaply replaced with similar value devices. Take photo's before removal & beware of their polarity.
Obviously, if your not a technician, never work on a live switch mode circuit. You can get a nasty shock.

Good Luck

Even when pluged in why won't it turn on?

hi...if you only find it hard to turn your player ON when plugged, lets do this few easy steps in tracing down the problem...check first the power cord if there's an indication of cut / burn wire.. if no check if there's a blown fuse...if there's one try to replace w/ same value..blown fuse sometimes caused by power fluctuation or you have a defective parts in the power supply the power supply area check for any bloated or bulgy capacitors, if there's one replace w/ same value..also check the manual ON switch if it's still intact....test run....hope this help you...don't forget to rate and vote...good day..

My Zenith XBV342 will not power up.

The same thing happened to my equipment and a found component IC101 blown. The problem is that I can not find a supplier to buy it. I only found companies that sell high volume quantities.

Completely dead is their a fuse

Yes it does have a fuse. This will require you to remove the 8 screws from the metal housing. Then remove the housing. The fuse is located toward the back of the unit on the right hand side when looking down. It is a small 1amp, 250 V fast acting fuse, which can be found at Radio Shack if it is blown.

That said, there is no guarentee that this will fix your issue. I replaced the blown fuse and the unit still does not work. You maybe lucky and that solve the problem.

VCR accepts tape, then turns off

I think that there is something wrong with the tape you are using. The locking mechanizm is stuck and when the VCR can't turn the reels it will eject the tape. I'm assuming that you didn't try other tapes to see if it acts the same. You can unstick the locking mechanizm by putting a pencil or something like it in the 1/4" hole between the reels on the back side of the tape. Just try pushing down on that brake release. This has worked for me. Good luck.
