Have you made sure that you deselected the gentle wash cycle? This is what it sounds like. Reset the controls and then select the super wash cycle. AND be sure that you have not oberloaded your machine. Doing this will damage parts. Hope this solves your problems.

GE washer agitation starts normal the progressively slows and then stops agitation. All other modes work fine. Model # unknown. Motor or transmission? Thanx people!!!

Model # located on the back of the control box of top load, just inside of door on front load. Other Op modes ok, problem points to agitator support shaft or the belt drive of the agitator.

Slow agitator

Sometimes it is a very simple fix.
Agitator dogs.
4 little plastic thingies that wear out so the agitator has nothing to grip.
I'm not sure if they are specific to each model washer but it's about a $5.00 try.
You have to take the agitator out.
I watched YouTube.
Pretty easy and far less expensive than a pro!!
It took 10 mins. The hardest part was getting the agitator apart, which takes elbow grease!!
Good luck!

NEED TO REMOVE AN AGITATOR FROM A WASHING MACHINE

  • 1 First you must determine the brand of washing machine you have.

  • 2 To remove agitator on a whirlpool washer, remove top cap from agitator, Next you will find a translucent cap, remove this with your pliers. Then you will see a 3/8 inch nut, Back this nut out and you can then remove the agitator. Be Careful though, inside the agitator where the bolt has been removed is a white piece of plastic that holds the "dog ears". These dog ears are what lets the agitator move in one direction and locks when the transmission moves back in the other direction.

Maytag and Admiral washers are very similar to remove. General Electric, (GE) is different, To remove a GE agitator simply pull upwards very hard, GE agitators snap on. Be careful not to pop it into your mouth, that really hurts.

  • 3 Remove agitator, repair or replace and reset, GE just push on, you will be able to see the groves to line up the agitator to the hub. For whirlpool place bolt into dog ear guide, and set down on top of transmission post and tighten, be careful that dog ears, do not get out of alignment. That's it.

    Buy F150 parts.

Washing machine will not spin or agitate

It sounds like it might be the belt. You should unplug the machine, take the bolts and screws off of the back and lift the cover off. Look for the belt and see if you notice any damage or anything wrong with the belt.

Hope this helps! Please rate my answer :) Thanks!

Brand new agitator does not rotate. I realized that I did not buy a new "seal-cap" that goes between the agitator and the cap. Would the missing cap cause the agitator to fail to rotate? GE spacesaver...

by 'rotate' do you mean that it will not turn at all or that it turns in both directions and does not 'rachet', turning in one direction only and agitating the clothes? If it rotates freely in both directions, it's probably your agitator dogs not engaging either due to improper assembly or breakage.
