Question about Televison & Video

I am in Australia and have just bought a DMR BW500. I have a dvd from Japan which won't work on it and I have been told that if I unlock the region code, then it will work. So how do I unlock the region code?

The first solution did not work. Further information is that my remote does not have a "set up" button, but I must get to a "set up" screen by going via the "function menu.
Also, the message I get on screen when inserting Japanese DVD is "This DVD is not compatible". This does mean a region problem doesn't it?

The following works on a region 4 player. With no disc in the player and the drawer closed, press stop, stop, setup, then 3,8,8,8,3 and the desired region code, (0 for multiregion). Nothing will appear on screen. Then switch the player off and back on. It should now play discs for any region

Depending upon the make and model of the DVD player, it maybe possible to configure/update the firmware in the DVD player to make it a region free player, this will allow you to play DVDs from any region.
The instruction for your DVD player should show you how to changes to the Region code to play a DVD from a different region BUT if you make a change on the fourth time, it will lock the DVD player permanently on that region.
Some DVD players have instructions on how to make the DVD players Region free. Otherwise you need to Google search the Internet for firmware upgrades for your model DVD player. NOTE if you make a mistake installing the firmware you can turn your player into a piece of junk.
Pioneer DVD players are fairly cheap and they have instructions to convert the DVD player into a region free player.

Hi jason,

These are the only mentions I have seen for panasonic region codes:

http://www.avforums.com/forums/dvd-player-hacks/368649-panasonic-dvd-players-region-free-hack-now-available.html

http://www.dcevolution.net/panasonic/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=32&Itemid=54

At the moment it doesnt look like there are any specific ones for that model of DVD player.

Have a read through some of those forums though and if you try out some of there idea's if you fancy a go as I know that some of the codes can be used on different models.

Other than that you can wait for the code or maybe buy a chipped remote.

Thats all I can find, sorry its not much.

Regards

Mike

Is the panasonic dmr bw500 a multi region player, ie I am in australia (region 4) and want to buy a region 2 dvd to play on it. Will it work???

I can't let a fellow Aussie pass so some good news and some bad. The BluRay player is region b but the dvd part of the unit is multi region. So YES it will work as long as it's not BlueRay. Whether or not a fix will be available at a later date to change the BlueRay to multi region is something you may have to wait for. It sure would make a top unit even better. I certainly wouldn't refuse one.
I hope the news is good mate

Looks like you are out of luck for now. I just checked the site I have used a few times to turn off the region on my dvd players and there is nothing for yours. You can check back again later to see if something is posted

DVD UNLOCK CODE

I've checked and theres no remote input to make it multi region. It could be done with a Pocket pc with infared apparently but this seems tricky. I searched 6 different DVD code sites for a code but the pocket pc one is all it came up with. Its seems to be the same for most DMR versions. You could also use a pre-cracked remote to do it. Sorry i couldn't find anything for you.
