Question about Apple iTunes

1 Answer

I have an HP laptop with Vista Home Premium operating system. I just got an iPhone 3GS. When I tried to install iTunes ver 8 (64-bit), the installer would not install Apple Mobile Device Support, which is needed for iTunes to recognize the iPhone so that I can sync it. Apple Support has been unable to figure out the problem. We have tried deleting all the Apple software and doing a clean install. We have tried rolling back to the Vista that came installed on the laptop. I tried stripping out the Apple Mobile Device Installer from the iTunes installer and installing just that. Nothing will allow me to install Apple Mobile Device Support. I was able to plug the iPhone into my old desktop running Windows XP with iTunes ver 7.7 and get the iPhone registered and synch my songs to the phone. Any ideas on what is causing the problem and how to correct it?

I just purchased an HP Pavilion p6232 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit preinstalled. When I installed iTunes, it installs all components EXCEPT the Apple Mobile Device. When I launch iTunes, an error message comes up: "iTunes.exe has been set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows. For best results, turn off compatibility mode for iTunes before you open it" then I click OKAY and iTunes launches. When I plug my ipod in a error pops up: " This ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes then install the 64 bit version of iTunes." When I go to DEVICES, it recognizes my ipod as a Digital Camera, and iTunes doesn't recognize that it is even plugged in. I have done everything the error messages suggested. I have been on the phone with Apple Support for 8 hours over the past week and they have not been able to force install the Mobile Device or find any other resolution. I have emailed Microsoft and their first suggestion was to contact Apple. Their next suggestion was to uninstall and reinstall Windows 7. The problem I have is that my computer came with Windows 7 preinstalled so I don't have a disc to reinstall Windows Microsoft gave me a phone number to BUY it from Microsoft. I just spent $900 for a computer with Windows 7 on it, why would I buy it again? Microsoft then said to contact my Computer Manufacturer (HP). My ipods worked on my Windows XP computer, but not on my Windows 7 computer. Sounds like a problem with Windows 7 to me. Any suggestions on where to go from here? I don't know if it is an Apple problem, a Microsoft problem, or my HP Computer problem.

Check and make sure you have a compatible version. 64bit Windows software will not install on 32bit windows os. All Vista products come in 32 bit and 64bit versions.

I could not upgrade neither windows XP, Windows 7 of this Product Model: GT5662. Would you assits? Thanks.

Hello kelvinvu, according to the information that I gathered from this computer model, it has Windows Vista 32 bit home premium installed on it. Windows XP is an older operating system so you can't "upgrade" to it. You could however install a fresh copy (more likely completely erasing all your previous information on vista and data files) or you could upgrade to Windows 7. Since you are using "Windows Vista 32 bit home premium", you have to upgrade to "Windows 7 32 bit home premium" or better. So if you were trying to "upgrade" to Windows 7 Home Basic, it will not allow that since it considers that a downgrade in the Operating System. You should actually be able to pop in the Windows 7 Home Premium CD while vista is running and start the upgrade process pretty painlessly that way. Just access the CD and walk through the menus for upgrading Vista to Windows 7. As a reminder, you must use the 32 bit discs. If you try and use the 64 bit discs (a different operating system as far as windows is concerned) you will have to go through the same process of installing a new version of windows (not upgrade). I hope this has solved your specific problem kelvinvu, have a great day!

Upgrade vista home premium

As per my knowledge, there is no version of Vista called Vista Professional like in Windows XP.
Make sure what is the version to which you want to upgrade to from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.
The available versions of Vista Operating Systems along with the features supported from the Link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/default.aspx

However, if you want to Upgrade the current version of Vista to a higher version like Vista Business or Vista Ultimate, you need to purchase Vista Anytime Upgrade kit from any retail store or directly from Microsoft.
You can find the required information related to Anytime Upgrade Kit from the link below :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/anytime-upgrade-overview.aspx

However, make sure that you had created the Recovery Disks for your notebook using which you will be able to reinstall the preinstalled Operating Sytem along with all the Preinstalled Applications and Drivers after which you need to use the Vista Upgrade Kit to upgrade to higher version of Vista.
However, if you are currently having a 32 Bit Vista preinstalled in the Notebook, it is not possible to upgrade to a 64 Bit Vista since you can upgrade only a 32 Bit of Operating System to a higher version of 32 Bit Operating System and a 64 Bit Operating System to a higher version of 64 Bit Operating System.
Hope this helps....

Error -need to re-install the operating system

Insert your Windows Vista Basic CD into the CD ROM drive and restart your computer.

It will autoboot from the CD and you can reinstall Vista Basic.

Should you have further problems don't hesitate to give more details.
