I have the Sylvania TV model#SST4191. I can not get an universal remote to program with it. Isn't there a sensor on the TV somewhere to read the code?

I dont know this model or how old it is. If it is an older set a universal magnavox or philips remote will work. You should find an older model remote in this case. If it is a newer tv you may use a newer magnavox or philips universal remote. If this is a flat screen, you will have to contact the manufacturer. You will be pleased to know now, that you are on the correct path.
