Question about Sony Computers & Internet
Vaio VGN CS11S
At times the laptop just turns off wihtout any reason
Usually when it shuts off like this it means it is overheating. That can be lack of airflow or the fan needs to be cleaned. You need to have the laptop sitting on a hard flat surface. If you use it on your laptop or a cloth covered table for instance it won't get as much cooling air and overheat.
If you don't use it this way then the problem is the fan or cooling system is full of dust or hair. If you have gas heat, pets, live where its dusty or the laptop is near the kitchen then it can take a few months at most before even a brand new laptop can begin to overheat. You can use a can of computer air such as dust off to blow in the air intake and exhaust. If you see just one small puff of dust and you will be surprised how small, then this should fix your overheating for a few months. If you don't feel comfortable doing this any computer shop can blow it out. If that doesn't fix it then the heating system is probably packed with hair or dust and the laptop needs to be disassembled and cleaned. This should cost about $50 and the can of canned air should be $4-$10.
