What TV? With a the USB2 TV Tuner you could record from your computer. There are some high end HDTV's that have usb connections for viewing j and mpeg's. If you don't have this type of TV and happen to have an Xbox, PS3 or Wii they all have UPnP to allow media to be extended to the Xbox from your computer (may be a cheap alternative for you). Hope this helps, Bill

Can you record from a smart tv with arecording box

First of all you need to check if your TV supports recording. Some 2010 models do and most 2011 have it implemented. Look for stickers or logos such as:
  • USB Recording
  • PVR (Personal Video Recorder)
  • DVR (Digital Video Recorder

  • The following manufacturers support it in some of their models. Typically mid-end to high-end models. Check the manufacturer web site if you are unsure.
  • Samsung
  • Sony
  • LG
  • Philips
  • Panasonic
  • Toshiba
  • Sharp (only Time Shift pausing)
  • Grundig

    What you need

Many consumers have USB recording enabled TVs without actually using the function - simply because it requires an extra USB hard drive ou need the following:
    1. USB Recording: A HDTV that supports recording.
    2. A USB HDD: FlatpanelsHD uses a USB HDD from Transcend.
    3. Digital channels: Recording is only enabled on digital channels - not analog. You can record SD, HD and 3D.
Some manufacturers recommend USB hard drives with external power supplies but we have used a Trandscend USB HDD that takes power from the USB plug on all manufacturers' TVs without any problems. Manufacturers typically allow 1:1 recording, meaning that you will see no loss in picture quality.

How to set up USB Recording

Once you have purchased a USB hard drive and connected it on the back of the TV you can move on to "pairing" the USB HDD with the TV. Here is how to set up USB recording.

  • Connect the USB HDD to a free USB port on the back of the TV.
  • The USB hard drive now needs to be formatted (all data will be deleted).
  • Most TVs help you to format the USB HDD automatically but on some models you need to enter the menu and select format HDD (or something similar)

Can a Panasonic CX400 tv have a 1TB portable hard drive plugged into it?

The TV reads the hard drive. It does not record to it. You need a DVR for that.

I guess you mean a Set Top Box to convert digital TV transmission to old analog TV. Choose the correct video format for your screen.
Ah... Perhaps Your recording at an old standard & passing it to a modern TV or HD TV with the digital output from 1080 HD to 720 or lower still.
    OR
Get a Digital Hard Drive recorder.....

The modern way to Record video is to use a Hard Disk Drive Recorder rather than a VCR. They have a built in tuner and can record 2 stations at once and have a built in Electronic Program Guide. The EPG info is transmitted with the Digital TV transmission from the broadcaster.
I bought one 2 weeks ago for an old 85yo friend so he could record late night stuff and play back later. He still uses the VCR but only for old VHS Tape playback. It was a TEAC HDR9650TS Digital Video Recorder and I picked it up new for Aus$188.

My tv does not support san disk 16gb cruzar blade

The device may be of "too low of quality"-- meaning..the device may be too "SLOW" to record the stuff you want to record...

Lower (cheaper) storage, is often not as "FAST" to record, as higher quality device... sadly.. the simple solution..return the device, and try another.

    Nothing wrong with your TV....

The problem maybe is that your T.V. does not recognizes large space of hard drive. You can try to use a smaller storage like USB Flash disk or Memory Card.

Hi my nameis Mike Houston of DISH Network and I see you want to get your recordings offyour DVR receiver to a hard drive through your USB slot. Depending on thereceiver and external hard drive or device you have and you will need to makesure it meets all the requirements, if you are using the 522 or 625 DVRreceivers you can only use the Pocket DISH portable media players. Those modelsthat are compatible are; AV402E, AV500E and AV700E, if you have any questionsplease e-mail me at michael.houston@dishnetwork.com.

Local disk error WD My Passport 250GB

Do you connect & disconnect the drive according to WD's recommendations here? Try another cable. (If yours was wearing out, that might explain why it only connected some times.) Try another usb port. Check the power supply (another receptacle) Unplug other usb devices from the system.
    See this article. Good luck!

My seagate 250 GB hard disk is not being detected, no lights, pls help me!!

First, try plugging it in to another usb slot.

If it still does not work, plug in another device to the same usb slot. If it does not work also, there is a problem with your usb slot, and you can buy an extra usb slot.

or, if the other device works, try unplugging and taking out all the power supply for your desktop/laptop. Then, after 20 minutes, plug them back in and then plug in your hard drive, then turn on your computer.

Hope this helps, leave a comment on what happened ^_^
