Black screen when we go to take pics on our Canon Power Shot, the view on the screen is black. It will take a picture, but you can't see what you're taking a picture of. you can view your pictures afterwards on the Play mode, but not while you're actually TAKING the picture.

Not to worry, this a very simple problem. Your display is set to off. All you need do is set it back on. And this is how you will do it.
To the right of your screen where you have your buttons, look for the display button. Below it is usually labeled DISP. Press this button again and again and watch as the screen display changes. At one of those instances it goes blank/off, but at the others it displays the view in deferent manners. Stop at any of those display options where it shows the view.

If the viewer works then what I would say has happened is your viewer is in the wrong mode. You can set that to stay off, or display the picture for a few seconds.

If you look in your manual there will be a detailed step by step on how to get to the menu and change the setting for your model of Powershot.
There are several quite different Powershot models so you need to find your exact model for the exact instructions. If you don't have the manual you can download one from Canon support.
http://www.canon.com/
Then select where you are located (otherwise it just sits there) then support and driver/downloads and a new window appears. The select digital camera then your camera model and finally documents. Download and save your manual.

All I see in the view screen is a white screen. I have a power shot A60. It will switch to showing pictures already taken and those pics are fine.

Sounds like you have a bad CCD. You can try contacting Canon to check out your options on how to get this repaired. Unfortunately the S2IS is not on their CCD recall list of cameras.
