It's hard to say. It depends what caused the problem. If the cause is simple wear then replacing the control unit is really the only thing you can do. However if moisture, grease or grime has managed to get in and around the contacts under the buttons then cleaning would help. The problem is that the only way to clean that area is to disassemble the control unit. So your going to have ask your self just how annoying it is. If it's becoming unusable then it should be replaced. So you really have nothing to loss by attempting to clean it. It really depends on your level of comfort with taking things apart.
I would also get in touch with Dacor and explain the problem. It's possible your problem might not be uncommon and they may have something in place to deal with it. Below is the link to there home page.
Good luck.

You need to take it back to whomever replaced the fan because the wireless button ribbon came loose and it is simply not activating your wireless device as it should. These are ribbon cables typically that are flat and slide into sockets that then lock in place. When it was taken apart to fix the fan, they obviously did not get it slid back in properly or forgot about it all together.

Cooling Fan

The cooling fan supplies cool air to the unit to prevent overheating.

Please observe the following cautions for your safety.

Make sure the unit is well-ventilated. If the unit has poor ventilation, the temperature inside the unit may rise

and may damage it.

Do not obstruct the cooling fan or ventilation holes. (If the cooling fan or ventilation holes are covered with a
newspaper or cloth, heat may build up inside the unit and fire may result.)

So look at the fan and make sure it's turning. Pick out the dust balls. Give the system room to breath (Page 13: 4" clearance from the fan)

Hi- It sounds like you diagnosed the problem correctly. There is a chance there is something wrong with the board but I would replace the top switch first. They are pretty expensive if I remember correctly and be careful of the wiring colors, the last one I changed had the wire colors reversed but the wire labels were correct. Good luck.

Protect circuit activated........where to look for defects?

Typically a shorted speaker output. CHeck where your speaker wires are and see if there's just one wisker of wire touching the adjacent terminal. Check the back of the amp (easier said than done) and then check the back of the speakers themselves. Second most common issue is overheating. People leave an LP covering the ventilation openings on top of the amp and wonder why it overheats, so make sure you have air ventilation. Speaker wiring, then ventilation. Unplug unit, plug back in again, and power on and see if your problem goes away; if not, come back and we'll see what else we can try for you - okay?

Unit overheated due to fan malfunction.

Again EA or EC error codes? To unplug the fan you really have small hands. Fan is a unit not just motor, explosion proof and costs over $330.
If that was a popping or staccato noise it wasn't the fan but the gas valve. Sounds like water penetration which condemns the gas valve a $237 part which FYI DIY you can't replace unless you're a Tech.
What's with your warranty?
The pilot in an electronic Bosch doesn't exist, it's lite by a spark . igniter.
This is a Gas Appliance which requires a RSA to service.
If water penetration then change your termination box to drop dead by Z-Vent. We change dozens of these (GV's) a year due to this crappy box. These units work best when Direct Vented.
