Question about GE DDC4500S Gas Commercial Dryer

Gas Dryer igniter glows but does not ignite

My frigidaire gas dryer igniter glows, however, it never ignites. I have cleaned everything and tested the high temp cutout, however, it appears the gas valve does not open. Is it time for a new gas valve, or is there something else that could be holding the gas valve out?

Thanx in advnace!!

If the igniter goes on but only cycles off you have a bad solenoid coil on the valve you can pick them up as a set at a local parts supply shouldn't be more than $25

If your dryer doesn't heat, check these: Igniter Gas valve coils Thermal fuse Igniter Modern gas dryers use an electric igniter to ignite the gas from the gas valve. When it's working properly, the igniter glows bright orange. When it burns out, the dryer tumbles but there's no heat because the gas can't ignite. When the igniter burns out, you need to replace it. If the igniter is held by a tension bracket, you very well may need to replace the bracket too. To determine if the igniter is burned out, watch the part testing video at the bottom of this page. The igniter is inside the dryer housing, near the bottom front, usually in a cone-shaped metal tube (the force cone). It's about 2 inches long. It's mounted to the far end of the burner tube, and it has two wires attached to it--or to the tension bracket, if there is one. Gas valve coils Watch the igniter. Does it glow bright orange, then shut off without igniting the gas? (When the gas ignites there's a large blue flame.) If so, there may be defective coils on the gas valve. Mounted on the top of modern gas valves, there are black electrical coils. The coils, when energized, open the gas valve. If one or more of the coils are defective, the valve doesn't open and the gas cannot ignite. Because it's often difficult to properly test the coils, it's usually best to replace both (all) of them at the same time. Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse (a heat-sensitive fuse that blows if the dryer overheats) mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse is about an inch long. It's usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, it has no continuity. When this happens, your dryer either just stops heating, or it doesn't work at all. Be sure to inspect the venting/heating system before replacing the fuse to put the dryer back into operation. (You can't re-set this type of fuse.) To determine if the thermal fuse has blown out, watch the part testing video at the bottom of this page.

Frigidaire crown gas dryer runs fine but after about 10 minutes it turns itself off and i cant turn it back on for about an hour

From the description you give the most likely cause of this problem are bad gas coils or a bad gas valve.

You say you see the flames for 10 minutes before it stops heating but you don't mention if the igniter is continuing to glow. One thing we need to know is if the igniter continues to cycle on and off when the dryer stops heating.

There is a small square plug on the front panel you can remove to try and visually check if the igniter is glowing.

The problem won't be the thermal fuse or one of the thermostats. Once the fuse is open the dryer won't heat but it won't start to heat after 20 minutes.

After the dryer runs ten minutes and stops heating then check if the igniter is still cycling on and off. This is important because if the igniter is working then the thermostats and igniter are okay.

When the igniter glows at some point you might hear a click and the igniter would stop glowing. The click is from the flame sensor and after the click and the voltage is removed from the igniter at the same instant the voltage is applied to the gas coils and you should get a flame.

You might hear a hum, buzz or vibration from the coils when this happens. If the coils seem to react to the voltage but there is no flame then most likely the gas valve is bad. If the coils don't do anything then most likely the coils are the problem. The gas valve and gas coils can work for 10-15 minutes and then heat up and stop working till everything cools down.

One other thing I must tell you about the gas coils. Here is a link to the gas coils you will need. These are the new style that will last quite a bit longer the the older one. The coils are like the spark plugs in your car. The will need replacing in time due to wear. Below is a video to walk you thru the repair process.

Igniter won't glow

Hi,
I am assuming that everything works OK except you have no heat?
When you turn on dryer listen for gas valve to click(this may take a few seconds). If you don't have a click then the gas valve my be bad or it is not getting power.

Dryer has to be running to check for power only experienced persons should perform machine running power tests.
Let me know If I can do anything else to help.

My gas dryer starts fine than the flame goes out

replace the coils. i promise you. and here is a guide to most gas dryer problems that even a kid can see.

starts fine, cycles off, igniter comes on, hear a click, and no flame.-coils.
(can also be intermintent)

igniter stays on, no flame.-flame sensor

no glow from igniter.-igniter

remember, always allow about one minute for ignition.

Gas dryer - kenmore 110.73932102

Hi

Things that could stop a gas dryer from heating:
- glow bar igniter, thermal fuse ( not all models ), coils on the gas valve, gas valve, thermostats, motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, sensor.
A page for checking gas dryers is here.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

MY GE GAS DRYER WILL NOT HEAT UP

check an pop the lil plastic cover on the front of the dryer an then turn the dryer on an see if the igniter glows after 30 secnds if it glows........** you probably have bad coils****if it doesnt then check the thermal fuse for continuity if is not checking ok replace it , that is one of the most common causes,
steps
1 check igniter for glowing
2 check thermal fuse for continuity test
3 if they both check ok an still no heat change the coils

good luck!

check for igniter to be glowing, remove the plastic tab on the front panel an start the dryer

if it glows igniter is ok takes about 30 seconds to glow.if it glows is ok.
then check the thermal fuse for conitnuity an if it checks ok
then you have bad coils. replace the coils an ur done

Gas Dryer won't stay hot

There is a thermoelectric eye that says it is OK to keep the gas burner on. If this sensor is defective or blocked from "seeing" the gas flame is properly lit, it will turn off the gas flow (safety) override solenoid. With the unit unplugged make sure that the optical path on the upper right (1:30 CW position) flame tube inside sensor window is clean. The rattle you hear is probably the safety gas shut-off solenoid engaging. If you need more help, please ask -- SWT

No heat

You may have a weak igniter. Just because the igniter glows, does not mean it is working properly. The glow bar type igniters are supposed to draw a certain amount of current in order for the gas valve to open. If the current potential is never met, the gas valve will not open. This is a safety feature used to prevent gas flow without ignition. The current readings for the igniters are as follows: Round style glow bar: 2.7 to 3.2 amps Square style glow bar: 3.2 to 3.7 amps If it is reading less than the required amperage, replace it. This may just solve your problem. Let me know if this helps you.
