4 GB Flashdrive says I only have 635.9 MB on my MAC

I have a mac, and my flashdrive is saying I only have 635.9 Mb left, when it should have 4gb on the Flashdrive. Is it a hidden folder issue? If so, How do I fix it?

Well - sometimes if you buy flash drives from ebay they can be fakes and not include all the advertised space. If there is a format facility for the flash drive on your mac then see if you can perform on one that drive.

All you need do is right click on the flash drive icon and select format. By the time the formatting is done you will certainly get your 4gb back, all things being equal. However you must copy your vital files in the flash drive onto a secure location on your computer first, else you will loose them all. After formatting, you may return your files. In windows right clicking on a drive pops out a menu including the format button. Guess it should be something similar with MAC. I am more familiar with windows.

Formating the flashdrive may restore the drive to its full capacity. This will delete the existing files on the flashdrive.

Plug the flash drive into the windows PC first and open "Computer". Find the drive and format it to Fat32 or NTFS. Now plug it into the mac and copy the pictures too it. Now your Windows computer should see the files. Mac will default to making the flash drive use HFS+ filesystem. Windows doesn't recognize this format at all. Mac will see fat32 and ntfs just fine though.

Most flashdrives (aka pen drives or usb sticks) do not require installation. They are a storage device that you add information to. If you could post your OS (either XP, Vista, Linux or Mac OS X) we can go through the process of adding and reading information from the drive.

unfortunately the files cannot be recovered immediately, macs a are compatible with PC flash drives but not the other way around. you need to format the disk. go to start>my computer> then right click on the flash drive and then left click on format, then click ok. when it is done bring the flash drive back to the mac and put the files back on. now try putting the flash drive into the pc again
