It is a Maytag electric washer, top-load, model #PAVT244AWW.

We have not seen your response to the model# and make of the washer. Where should we be looking for your response?: Have you already sent one? Of course this is really silly because we may not see your response to this response to respond!!!! Our email address is mjentley@tx.rr.com!

I am working on a Maytag Performa electric washer, top-load, model #PAVT244AWW. I have purchased the gasket repair kit because it is leaking out of the bottom of the tub. I have received advice from different people about which direction to turn the spanner nut, but both directions are getting no results. Is this a right-handed nut or a left-handed nut and what advice can you give to make this nightmare easier?

Barrel ? The inner spin basket or the outer tub ? Both require a lot of work. But everything has be removed, disconnected and or replaced. Front panel, door, rear panel, pulley, belt, flip up the top, all hoses and harnesses, top and bottom, front tub cover, bellows, un lip from the outer tub, cement block for weight, shocks on bottom and springs on top !

I have a IDL146 washing machine, always the 1400 spin cycle was noisy but now it sounds like a jumbo jet taking off! Are there bearings that can be replaced by a DIY person? If so,please can you tell me...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
These are the bearings making noise.
http://www.yourspares.co.uk/parts/hotpoint/washing-machines/widl146/parts/ys75567/bearing-kit-HPTC00203002.aspx
However.. this is not a task the average mechanic will be able to accomplish. It involves complete disassembly of the cabinet, the removal of the outer tub front cover and finally removal of the inner tub.
Additional issues that can be encounterd are:
1. Establishing a proper "Tub balance" post bearing / seal change
2. Outer tub seal leaking in the front of the machine.
3. Drive belt damage
4. Tub spider damage if the bearing is very difficult to remove.

This is one of those tasks that has resonably priced spare parts for the initial problem but, can very easily result in the need for several other spares and added expenses.

If your going to DIY just understand what your getting into and take your time. Make sure to clean the front outer tub seal quite well as it will leak if there is even a hint of debris on the seal post repair.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Washer say on screen LE and will not turn.. Also when manually turn the turn hear grinding noise too.

Grinding noises are bad. If you are lucky, you got an item (like an underwire support from a bra) between the inner and outer tub, which may be removed through the heater or drain openings in the tub. If you are un-lucky, your rear tub seal failed, causing the rear bearing to fail, or the shaft broke loose from the 3 arms of the spider which drives the inner wash tub. Either of those things is $$$ and a lot of work to repair, involving removal of the outer drum, seperation of the outer drum halves, and repair. (translation: minimum 2 hours labor if you've ever done one before)

Starts to spin and gets off balance

is the unit level right to left front to back ....if not adjust leveling legs and the tighten locking nuts on leveling leggs.... if unit is level either the tub shocks called dampers are worn they connect the tub to the bottom of the washer and allow a gentle ride while spinning ,,, if they dont look worn or broken the you have a rear bearing and spider support problem and that may be little more than you want to spend on part's consist of seperating the inner and outer tub removing spider support on back of inner tub and replacing seal and bearing on rear outer tub very time consuming and many peopleese parts check owners manual on parts and labor on thst replace washer ....check warranty

Small (front) baffle in tube of Maytag Nautilus

i cant imagine why you would have too, just drill the screws till the break off andlet them fall w/in theinnner and outer tub.then get the screws out of the catch all at water pump, they might even pass through the drain hose....if you seperate the tubs, youll need time and a new seal between the tubs

Maytag Dependable LAT8824AAE. Main tub seal leaks

The part number for the mounting stem and seal kit is 6-2095720 it cost about 85 bucks retail. You will also need to buy a special maytag spanner wrench to remove the inner tub. Its NOT an easy job the inner and outer tubs and hoses all need to be removed. The seal kit comes with no instructions. If you had a service company do the job it would be probably around 250 maybe more. We charge 104.95 labor for the job. Good luck _MJ_

Leaks when filling with water after 1/3 full. Seems to come from under plastic tub near center of tub. The inner ''O'' ring seal was found to be missing. Could that be the cause? Main outer tub seal LOOKS...

You did not mention the age or model of your machine. However, on the older models there is a star boot in the bottom of the tub that can wear a pin hole in itself ofer several years of use. If you have the unit torn down to just the tub then replace all the seals. Just make sure you clean the mating surfaces well with an old slightly worn scotch brite pad. If you provider your model number I can provide you with an overnight source for the parts and the part numbers you need to obtain.

Looking for replacement bearings for the outer tub to inner tub on our Maytag FAV6800AWW, S/N 13389034ET. Don't want to replace the whole outer tub assy.

It sounds like you may have to replace the Outer Tub to replace the Outer Tub bearing .....ain't that just peachy.....good job Maytag design team.

If you are the original owner I would press Maytag hard to replace the Outer Tub based on the Outer tub Bearing failure. Their warranty states third thru tenth year Drive Motor, Outer Tub and Sealed Transmission. I’m sure you will need to have a certified Maytag repair service tech certify the failure and fix action required. Why should an Outer Tub bearing replacement cost you $430. Another poor design issue of this machine.

My Sears Calypso washer is not draining. discharge pump is new and working. It looks like something is in the plastic tub blocking drainage. How do you remove spindle & SS tub to get at the plastic tub...

You really should replace the seals, gaskets and o-rings when you remove either the outer or inner wash plate or you have compromised the water tight seal for the U-Joint which drives the wash plate, and the washer will eventually fail completely (rust out the U-joint and brakes), from what the service manual warns. These units tend to eat small articles of clothing in the gap between the wash plate and the tub, if the seal starts to wear. According to the book, the gaskets and such must also be replaced when these plates are removed to avoid the inevitable seal integrity compromise that will ruin the unit's moving parts.

Outer tub seal

you must first remove the agitater, then remove the inner tube, you'll need a spaner wrench, you now can see the tub seal, how you need to remove the 3 bolts around the bottom of the outer tub,now you can remove the outer tub and replace the tub seal,or use some 3m gasket seal,up to you,you can get a new tub seal on line for $10,let me know how you do-mike
