USB Accessories Lately I started to have problems my 2 USB Ports on my Dell Inspiron 500m portable computer.  The were unable to recognize my mouse and keyboard.  It was not possible to reload the drivers for both items.  After trying to fix it myself, I brought my computer to a service person.  He told me that he had to reload from Dell some USB stuff and other things from Windows (I didn't try to understand).  Back home, every time the computer boots, it is asking for the installation of the mouse and the keyboard.  Sometime even if this happens, the mouse or keyboard are working, some other times, I need to reload the driver.  What should I do?

also check your settings if you have changed to logitec or a cheaper version your speed might be set to fast for the items you are using. try slowing the mouse pointer speed.

The USB ports have stopped working on my Dell inspiron 620, thus now I can't use my mouse or keyboard. How do I fix this problem?

Go to "Device Manager" and look if any yellow or red alerts are being displayed. You can get to "Device Manger" by clicking on your "Start" button, right click on "Computer" and select "Properties". It will be on the left side top of menu. If there are "Flags" click on them and see what the issue is. It might might be a corrupted software driver.

Why don't my Dell 600m USB ports work?

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/inspiron-600m

Look for any drivers missing, in the device manager.

You will probably need, the chipset driver, to make the usb port work.

You will also need service pack 1, to support the usb function.

Good luck

How can i update dell dock?

A docking station is an extension or addition of ports for a laptop computer. Once the portable computer is docked, you can access the docking station's ports, such as PS/2 or USB 2.0 ports, through your computer. Some docking stations have monitors that you can connect your computer to, placing your video on an external screen so you can turn off your computer's monitor and conserve some of your computer's energy. All Dell docking stations will have the same general troubleshooting steps.

Plug your laptop's power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If there is no power going to your laptop from the docking station but it works when the power adapter is plugged into the wall, the docking station is bad and needs to be replaced. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power goes on but your computer doesn't recognizes accessories such as a USB mouse--plugged into the docking station, try a different port on the station. If it works in a different port, the previous USB port is burned out. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power is going through the docking station but no accessories are being recognized, you might have a corrupted docking profile. Undock the computer and dock it again once it has fully started up to reset the docking profile. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If you have an external monitor and it is not working, completely close the lid on the laptop so the image will move to the external monitor. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power is going through the docking station but no accessories are being recognized and resetting the docking profile fails, update all drivers through Dell's support website and then re-dock the computer. Some of the software that runs the hardware may have become corrupted. Hope this helps

XP crashed on my Dell latitude D600 laptop. I

go to mfg websight and down load all th proper drivers there is likely a mother board driver not installed that allows it to see the ports
install all of the manufacturer's drivers
dont expect that microsoft wrote windows just for your computer it is a general set of generic drivers that make most things work but not every thing

I am unable to get my computers to recognize my mouse or key board? System is connected to two dell towers.

Do they work fine if you connect the keyboard and mouse directly? Does the video connection work correctly? Check that the appropriate ports are enabled in the BIOS (USB or PS/2).

Problem with KVM switch and Vista

Your problem has nothing to do with the Operating System (Vista), it has something to do with the brand of your computer. I have similar problem before, I have Vista (Dell), but the time I connected another Vista (Sony Vaio), everything worked correctly.

This is what you need to do:

1. You have to make sure that you are using a standard USB keyboard and mouse.

2. Connect first the keyboard and mouse directly to the Vista computer to see if the USB ports of your computer are working properly.

3. You may power cycle the KVM switch by disconnecting it from the computers (including the keyboard and mouse) and leave it disconnected for 2 minutes.

4. Reconnect everything after two minutes and then reboot the computers.

5. Try using different USB keyboard if problem exist after power cycling the KVM switch.

External hard drive

There is no enough power in you USB port. I was have similar problem with my old PC (Duron 1.3GHz, I don't know what motherboard).

When I conected HDD (My passport Essential) to USB (there is only USB 1.1 port on this MB, and probably if you have USB 2.0 you will have no problem), hardware wizard is started, looking for drivers (which are not needed to install portable HDD), and then I have message like "unrecognized USB device ...".

SOLUTION: On this MB there is 6 USB 1.1 ports, but only 2 are connected on case (with plugs on case outside), others are on MB and if you have cable you can use it. In my BIOS all 6 were turned on, and I think there must be a problem with power on chip (you have some power divided with 6 ports, and this is not enough for HDD).

I turned off my other USB ports in BIOS, and left only fist two, and HDD is now in my computer ....
