There is a sensor inside the door to the right it actually "feels" the dampness of the clothes across the two strips on the sensor, if you close a wet washcloth in the door so that it hits the sensor you will see that it will show as wet and it will run longer.
if nothing in the load hits the sensor the sensor will call it dry and the load will finish, larger loads work better with sensor dry small loads not so much. if there is alot of trouble try using the timed dry cycle.

My dryer works on high heat on the timed side of the knob, but won't work on the low heat and high heat (more dry, less dry or energy preferred setting)

Does this mean the timer wont move or it will not dry ? if it will not dry it is more than likely the timer , if it wont advance then you have a shorted element

Dryer turns on heats up, shuts down, starts again runs for a bit, then kicks off again

This is the device that keeps the motor from over loading/heating. It's a bi/mwetal strip. Maybe a good cleaning of dryer will help but also you did not say if the motor ran and the heat stopped which could be another type problem. Try different setting on timer such at timed or less dry/more dry.

My GE dryer has no heat but runs. Also when you put the setting on more dry or less dry the dryer will run for hours, but will run the correct time on the timed dry setting. Either way the dryer will not...

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

May Tag Gas Dryer Model MDG3000AWW - Dry works but no heat, more dry/ less dry lights flashing. Whats wrong? How do I get heat again?

it is either your glow coil or it is your ignitor
open the door and remove the four screws
take the front panel off.
leave the door attached so you can test the dryer
be very careful not to touch any wires while you are doing this
now close the door and turn the dryer on
does the ignitor turn on?
if yes that is good
does the ignitor glow and no flame?
sometimes it will take a minute to show it's problem
if the ignitor glows and no flame replace your ignitor coils
make sure to turn the power off when replaceing the coils

My dyer is model # MDE7400AYW out of the blue the cycle more dry to less dry wont work & the Intelli sensore quit working but thats it the rest works I cant find the troubleguide to try and fix this...

Hi Molly,

Here is a link to your owners manual (below)

A couple of things to note you may know them already but here goes. The intelli sense will not work with Time Dry. Inside your dryer are two metal rods about the size of a pencil, if they get coated with residue from like dryer sheets the sensing will not work, you can take a rag with alcohol and wipe them clean.

If all these things do not work you may have a failure of the intelli sense board.

Let me know if I can help further.

Intelli sensor doesn't read that clothes are wet, just damp.does not get clothes dry in intelli cycle.does get them dry in timed cycle.already replaced sensor.

do you stack clothes on top? If so take them off and try another load and never ever put anything on top. It insulates it and makes the dryer not run right. Good Luck

Here's the problem: There is a dial on the dryer that should allow me to adjust for 'more dry' and 'less dry'. Up until recently, I could set the dial, and end up with clothes that were either 'more dry'...

sounds like you may have a clogged or kinked vent. its generating heat so the dryers good, your not exhausting properly, either clean or replace your venting, look to where it exits hte home sometimes theres ascreen over it cloggged with lint!!!!

Water isn't heating up and not drying

Check with a multi-meter for voltage (220/115v) on heating element's tags. If you can read this voltage on tags - you should replace the heating element In case you can't read voltage on its tags, disconnect one of the wires from its tag (you should unplug first your machine's power cable!) and test for element's resistance - If you can read its resistance, you should replace the thermostat. In case of no resistance - you should replace element and thermostat Good luck!
