Question about Hayward H Series Pool & Spa Heater 400k Btu Propane Gas Milivolt Ignition H400p1

Hayward heater attached to a 2PSI natural gas regulator

The main gas meter and input have been checked and are correct. I have had the Hayward heater checked 3 times and it is set perfect. The issue is probably the gas regulator at the heater. There is a 4lb regulator at the meter - which is correct. The 2psi regulator at the hayward heater tends to "purge" after I finally get it lit. It often "IF" codes which means fails to ignite. You can smell gas - but it won't light. Last resort is to change out the regulator.

What elevation are you installing this heater at? Most Haywards are rated for inlet gas pressures measured in inches water column, not PSI. Inches water column are far less than even 1 psi.

Good Day, missed your post for a few days. #1 & #2 fuses are on the high voltage side. This could mean a problem with incoming voltage or a bad fuse or main circuit board. Call our tech line at 908 355-7996. I have attached a link to the manual. http://www.hayward-pool.com/pdf/manuals/H-seriesLowNOx-H250IDL2-H350IDL2-H400IDL2.pdf

Hi there.
Your maxitrol regulator specification is correct for natural gas use, the pressusre setting may be in minimum (3"wc) that's why the fryer does not fire-up or it may also be clogged.
Check also if the spring is sitting properly on top of the plunger.
Regards.

Can an H150PI pool heater be converted from propane to natural gas

On this heater, the conversion may be a kit that replaces all the orifices. In any case if you call Hayward technical support they should be able to provide the correct solution. I hope this helps.

If the valve "in the heater" you are talking about is the main gas valve, check the regulator, which should be before the main gas valve.

Hayward H400FDN won't stay lit

It is probably not sensing flame. You either have a clogged orifice underneath the flame sensor and you probably need to have the gas pressure assessed, meter size and gas valve pressure adjustment. These heaters need 2" wc of gas pressure.
