I'm trying to get my computer back to factory settings

If you have a Recovery Partition, It is still there. You didn't supply your Make, Model of laptop or the OS you are using. But, Remove all media for the machine,DVD,CD,USB,...etc. Shut down, Unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot using the proper F key to enter the Recovery Partition, do A Full Factory Recovery. If asked format the drive. Your Recovery Partition is designated as another drive, it's a partition in software. The machine see the HDD as two, C ,your OS and D, Recovery , for instance.

To Reboot or recovery from CD/DVD problem with OS "Aser"

If you don't press the Alt+F10 key combination or use the recovery CDs, can you get into Windows? Boot with the recovery CDs in. When at the Acer logo during POST, press the F12 key. Then, select boot off CD or DVD. Alternatively, you can enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 key at the Acer logo and go to the Boot tab. There, you can set the CD/DVD drive as the first item in the boot order.
When turning your laptop on, before Windows starts booting, a splash screen appears first (usually with the logo of the manufacturer). Look on the splash screen (usually at the bottom) for a key (usually F10 or F11), assigned for System Recovery. Some manufacturer(s) (e.g. HP) place the recovery files to a hidden (mostly) partition of the hard drive, the others give a Recovery CD/DVD with the laptop.
  1. Press the start button from the start menu depending on your operating system(win 2000,xp)
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+delete combination from the keyboard.
  3. If you have a power button on your laptop keyboard,it could also be useful by pressing and hold it down for few seconds

N.B: "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" can exit you from usage and trigger a reboot
or Shutdown. Try and reboot using the operating system. Attempt to use the key combination that will allow you to exit from the operating system and restart the laptop. Be patient, as it may take some time if it has locked up. Hold down the power button. If the operating system's answer to the rebooting will not work, find and hold down the power button of the laptop. This should cause the device to shut itself off. You'll have to press the power button again to power it back on, completing the reboot.
Unplug from the wall and remove the battery. If restarting via the operating system and the power button do not work, unplug the laptop from the wall outlet, and remove the battery from the laptop. This will cause it to power off immediately. Allow time to reboot. Give the laptop time to cool down before you power it back on if you had to do this manually.A few seconds should do unless you have additional problems.

All the Best!

Windows7 stuck in loop

go to a local pc repair shop and have them burn you a windows disk for your version....the license is on a sticker on your PC, the Media (or disk,) doesn't matter for licensing purposes.

You can then attempt a start-up repair. boot from the cd, choose 'repair my computer', then choose the top radio button regarding advanced startup or recovery tools.

I left my Dell Inspiron on shut down overnight whilst it installed some windows updates. The next day it flashed up saying that the laptop hadnt shut down properly and needed rebooting and repairing. THis...

Boot up with the vista disk that came with your laptop and do system recovery again. Ignore the file corruption message because your going to be reversing your OS back in time to when your files weren't corrupted. Back it up to a time you know it works, the dates will be listed. Afterwards things should be fine, but know that vista does this alot for alot of people. NOTE: when you go back in time you will not have any files you had inbetween the date you back it up to and today. OTHER THOUGHTS: those mac commercials from way back when weren't just Evil Apple iPropaganda. Consider updating to Windows 7, I've never had a problem with it- where as your boot loop error happened to me on a weekly basis.

Couple of problem with my acer aspire one. The usual battery wont charge one .. have seen answers here so cool The other one is it wont go past the blue acer page before logon .. how do i resolve...

Seems like you need a new battery. If you want to confirm that your battery won't work again try it on similar Acer laptops and find out whether the battery is screwed or not. The answer to the second prob is that you should try booting it with a free distribution live cd like Ubuntu to check whether you've got an Operating System problem or not. U can also try the recovery by pressing the f10 or the f5( in some laprops) or the esc button at the beginning and check the Advanced recovery option for reinstalling the Operating System on your default operating system drive ( this will work only if you are having a recovery disk provided by Acer for your OS ). Another solution is u can format your laptop and install any OS of your choice !!!

I shut down my laptop when it was installing updates and now every time I turn it on it tells me to "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the restart...

It sounds like you shut the computer down when it was installing a critical update (firmware upgrade etc.) and you are now getting a kernel panic. Unfortunately i am unable to do much but you may need to reinstall Mac OS X and perform an 'archive and install' installation. This dumps the previous system in a folder called previous system and installs a fresh copy of Mac OS X (You may also want to choose to preserve your user and network settings). the other option is to take it to an apple repair centre
Good Luck!

Sure is, the recovery wizard is not limited. It is a back up of your OS. If F8 does not work, try to a hard shut down, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. make sure the laptop is totally off. Before you boot it back up, press and hold the "c" button on your keyboard it will initialize the recovery process right away.

Hope this helps.

When you turn the laptop on hit f8 until the menu comes up, try use the last good known configuration. If that does not work tap f8 goto safe mode and then to system restore and restore it to an earlier time. Let me know if it works.
