Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

My touch pad on my ge profile gas oven isn't working. It dosen't light up or make any sound when you touch any of the buttons. there is power to the stove top but it dosn't seem to be any power to the control panel. Could it be lose of power some how or do the control units go bad?

The answer was helpful but I am hoping we can narrow it down between the control panel and the controller. I submitted my model number JGB79AEWIAA and am hoping for more feedback.

Yes - the touch control panels can fail - most of the time it is the controller, however.

Most of the failures occur after the return of power after a power outage. Having the unit on a surge protector is recommended.

If you reply, using "continue with this expert", with a model number, I can be more accurate with the solution and offer links to replacement parts.

Your particular range's controller is commonly referred to as a timer.

SEE IT HERE as part #105. and $281 (SEE IT HERE)

It controls all the functions of the oven.

Touchpads will never outright fail. You might get 1 non-functional button - but it is most likely the timer has failed. The touchpad is #171

You will notice BOTH parts are extremely expensive - and I always suggest to invest that money in a newer oven with a warranty.

Of course it is your choice.... but before going down either route - many times the connectors corrode with age, and simply unplugging the timer and re-plugging it in will scrape enough of the corrosion away to make a good connection.

Give that a try first, then you'll need to decide if it is worth replacing the expensive timer at 2/3 the cost of a new oven.

    Thanks for using FixYa!!

SOURCE: GE Profile gas range - stove works, oven doesn't heat

Set the oven for bake. Wait a couple minutes and look in the oven. If you see a orange glow the ignitor is working, but, may need to be replaced.
If you see no orange glow the ignitor definitely needs to be replaced.

The F1 code can be 1 of 2 things. Try disconnecting the ribbon cable from the touch pad to the clock. Then reconnect power and if the code comes back with 32 seconds the eoc is bad. If it doesn't the touch pad is bad.

I have a GE Profile Spacemaker Microwave Touch Pad does not work

Sadly, GE does not make individual parts available for these controllers, so they cannot be repaired.

You have to replace the control panel sub-assembly (part number WB07X10733 in your case) and the best price I've found on that is $370.32 here (compared to $483.25 direct from GE).

In my opinion, this does not do much to inspire brand loyalty...

Or you may be able to find a whole oven on eBay for about that or less.

Sorry to bear bad news. Good luck.

Lighting the oven

Control Lockout (on some models)
Your control will allow you to lock out the
touch pads so they cannot be activated when
touched or cleaning the glass panel.
To lock the controls:
Touch the 9 and 0 touch pads at the
same time for 3 seconds until the
control beeps twice. The display will
show LOC continuously and the time
of day if not blacked out.
NOTE: All cooking and timing functions will be
cancelled when locking out the control.
To unlock the control, touch the
9 and 0 touch pads at the same time
for 3 seconds until the control beeps
twice, and LOC will be removed from
the display.
NOTE: Some models have a Control Lockout
pad. Touch and hold it for 3 seconds to
lock/unlock.
Gas/Control Lockout (on some models)
Your control will allow you to lock out the
surface burners, oven burners and control
panel so they cannot be activated.
To lock/unlock the controls:
Turn all surface burners off.
Touch and hold the Gas/Control
Lockout pad for 3 seconds until the
display shows LOC ON.
To unlock the control, touch and hold the
Gas/Control Lockout pad for 3 seconds
until the display shows LOC OFF.
When this feature is on and the touch pads
are touched, the control will beep and the
display will show LOC ON.
The control lockout mode affects all
controls. No controls will work when this
feature is activated.
The adjustment will be retained in memory
after a power failure.

Sister, there is no pilot light on this model. Sounds like you have a bad ignitor, however the F7 code shows as a bad touch pad membrane. d7 must represent how many times this fault occured, although Im not finding anything that shows a d7 code. Try resetting the board by killing power to the range for about a minute. After turning the power back on press the COOKING TIME, DELAY START AND NUMBER 8 PADS ALL TOGETHER. The words test should be displayed. Now you are going to energize the bake circuit; press the bake and start, you should hear a click, this is the bake relay on the board. By holding the start button in you are energizing the ignitor (glow bar) in the oven. If you do not hear the click, suspect the control board. If you do hear the click and the ignitor is not glowing, you have a bad ignitor. Have someone with you to verify the ignitor is glowing when you are holding the start button in. To exit the test, just push CLEAR/OFF key pad. Catriver...post back
