Question about Amana 22.6 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator with FrontFill Ice and Water

I recently purchased a home. The kitchen has a side-by-side Amana fridge/freezer with no ice maker. WHen we moved in, the fridge and freezer settings were on low. We turned them up to mid-level (7 is the highest) and proceeded to put things in. After a day or so, I noticed that the temperature in the fridge was not as cold and that items in the freezer were starting to defrost. I can hear the fridge running almost all of the time and the metal strip between the fridge and freezer is very hot (I placed a thermometer on it and removed it when it hit 50 degreesC). After 4 days it seemed to reach capacity. However, last Saturday it started again. Things are defrosting (though not totally) and the air is blowing cold (but not cold enough). The Beverage chiller is not as cold as it was and the fridge is also warmer. My untechnical temp measurements show fridge temp at 7 degreesC and freezer hovering around 1-2 degreesC. I have not taken anything apart yet, though I have pulled it out at unplugged and plagged it back in. Things look to be clean. No idea how old the appliance actually is as can't find the user manual.
Thanks

Firstly, the thermostats are usually calibrated at one elevation and where the fridge ends up may be above or below that so the number settings on the dial aren't that relevant. You should adjust the thermostat in increments then check the temperature after 24 hours, then adjust again if necessary. The fridge should be as close to 40 degrees F. as possible and the freezer about 26 degrees F. (if memory serves me). The heat you detected is the unit in defrost cycle and should be considered normal if intermittent and a problem if constant. There should be a switch to turn off and on the defrost feature if you determine it's a problem.
I hope this helps you and good luck.

Buzzing sound Kitchen Aid fridge Model KBLA20EMSS

It may be the arm in the ice maker is down. Even though the ice maker does not have the water hooked up if the arm above the ice bin is down it will still cycle the ice maker try lifting up the arm it should stay up this signals the ice maker that the bin is full and should shut off the ice maker. Hope this helps.

Plum in a Amana fridge freezer

hello. I am assumming that your model has the ice and water dispenser. Not all models do. On the rear of these models with the ice and water feature you will find a small [1/4 inch] line that has to be connected to a cold water supply source. If you go to most any hardware store you can get the little kit necessary to make this connection. The kit consists of a length of 1/4 inch tubing, the connector to attach to the tube at the rear of your appliance, a valve and a tapping kit to tap into your closest cold water source. If the fridge is near the kitchen sink, you may choose to connect under the sink. If not, make sure you purchase a kit with enough 1/4 inch tubing to reach your nearest cold water pipe. J.

Flashing #4 on temperature display

flashing #4 is a communication error between the control board and the damper assy, usually it is the fault ogf the damper assy but if it is under mfg warranty, replace both, if you need to pay for the parts yourself get the damper first.

Cannot install water line

I too had to scratch my head to locate where to connect the water line for the ice maker. Looking at the rear of the frig on the bottom right you will see a white plastic cover that the black plastic line goes into. There is a screw on the right side. Undo the screw and then pry off the white plastic cover. You will see a black plastic cap over the threaded water line connector. This is where you connect you line as approprite. I hooked up the line and turned the water supply back on and then you have to turn on the ice maker. I works great. Problem is the manual is not clear at all. Guess they assumed that the installler would be hooking it up. Once you know what to do is is a piece of cake. Good Luck. Doug S. in Poland, OH
