Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

4 out of the 5 cartridges are flashing on my printer- I assume this means that they are out of ink. However, the smaller black one is not flashing and appears full, but the printer still prints blank pages...why is it not using the black ink from the smaller cartridge till that one runs out? thx

I had the same problem. E J kept flashing. My black cartidge on the left side wasn't set correctly. It was a refill from a store an was smaller and looked different than the color . It was blocking the ink carraige from moving. I took out the black and pushed it back as far as possible. Now it works fine. Hope it works

Flahing E 5 and lights blinking on black and colored ink

Hi, the E5 means that:
The ink cartridges are
not installed[1401],
or a non-supported ink
cartridge is
installed[1485],
or the ink cartridges are
not installed
properly[1687].

Try with diferrent ink crg., Be sure to use genuine. If that doesnt help, the problem is in printer head, or logic board.

Hope that helped.

Do I need a color cartridge to print in black ink

the paper was black or blank? i think you mean blank, the ink will dry out over time replacing the cartridges will most likely solve the problem, or for the cost of the two cartridges u may want to consider a new cheap printer.

I have run out of black ink in the large cartridge. Can I make the rpinter use the smaller cartridge to print black and white?

No, the larger cartridge is used for text printing only.

The smaller cartridge is used to add black to images instead of using the color ink to make a composite black.

Change cartridge printer selects for black

Simply put...you cannot. The smaller cart is the dye black, which is used for picture printing. The larger is the pigment black which is used for text printing. You could try printing text as artwork, but i'm not sure this will work, besides, dye ink will bleed on regular paper and not look so crisp.

There are two black inks in the printer so that when you are printing only black and white such as printing a fax or when you set print in B/W for printed matter, the printer will use the larger ink cartridge. When you are printing in the multicolor mode (most people don't know the difference) the printer will use the finer black ink in the smaller cartridge. This smaller cartridge is used for photo printing and multi-color page printing. You cannot mix the two blacks since the larger cartridge is a coarser ink.

Black & colour cartridge lights are flashing and error code 2

When the black and color cartridge lights are flashing this means that there is an ink cartridge error. To solve this issue, you need reseat the ink cartrdige. If this does not correct your issue, you will unfortunately need to replace the ink cartridge. Make sure you are not forcing the ink cartridge into the printer as it can damage it.

Does not recognise the smaller black ink cartridge

This machine is not meant to switch between the two black cartridges. The large one is used when you are using black only, and the small one is used when you are printing in color.
