I purchased a Protron 800 at a silent auction. I set it up according to the directions, but I cannot get it to play. I used the three colored prongs in the correct holes. What is the S-Video hole for and will it help to use that connection? I only have a coaxiel cable connection on my TV. Yes, the TV is set on channel 3. I have also tried using other channels and settings on my older TV.
Hi, you'll want the 3 colored RCA cable to hook this up to an older TV. Yellow is for Video Out on player and Video In on TV. Then, on player, correspond the red and white to their holes for Audio Out, and match them with Audio In on your TV. You may have 2 spots on your TV that are labeled Audio In. Try them both - the one that works should very close to you Video In line.
Hope that helps!

hi,I tried to find you a user manual for you to solve the problem but I failed... sorry but without user manual it is hard to propose a solution for your problem since it is spesific issue on that model..I only recommend to you to go to "MENU" and scrool down on the sub menus to find out a control for this issue that you can alter.....Additionally ,Here is some information I found out about Protron company:
Protron and Spectroniq are the same company. I just visited the Protron web site "www.protronusa.com" it is dead and it has not been updated since 2007. I believe the company is no longer in business and will doubt if you will find a Protron Service Center. If and when needed,You are very lucky to find a repair shop that will attempt to work on the DVD , most will not. The internet is plagued with issues with protron products .
by the way based on google search ;" PROTRON " is being sued by " PROTON " for name brand name -copy right infringement. Hope this helps!Take care and please Remember to rate/vote for me to continue for Helping out the Community :) Thanks
The universal remote are very limited in functions for all original electronic devices, only like power on button, play button work only mostly.Try website like Remotes.com to buy the dvd player original remote control.
I was having the same problem, what worked for me: put together a cominashion of the same numbers, like 1111,2222,3333 Itryed this and mine worked with 88888. i over write, now i'm using 00000.just in case if i sell my player. holp this works for you.
I hope you have at least 2 sets of RCA jacks for (1) the Dish receiver and (2) the DVD player. Run 2 sets of R/W/Y cables to the TV. Done. Or use S-video for a better picture instead of yellow.
If you only have one composite input on TV (possible) then either buy a 2-way or more switch for the composite signal (R=right sound W=left Y=composite or S-video instead of composite) or you can instead pass the signal through the DVD recorder on the RCAs but the DVD will be on whenever anything is on. I assume you do not have a Dish 111 with only RF output but the same could be done for just the wimpy RF, just different switch. So there will be 3 RCA cables from Dish to a recorder and 3 then to the TV. Since you do not have a recorder, then go back to the switch or find another TV input.
Ten years, hum, you may not have had composite/S-video inputs and would have to use RF only--you did not say what TV was.
I thought I sent you an email two days ago that I have plugged in according to these diagrams and it still will not work. When I input Line 1 or Line 2, it does not "see" the Protron. In spite of this, I started the GoVideo playing a tape, and pressed the Record on the Protron, and what it recorded I do not know, as I was not successful in obtaining Disk Edit.
Maybe I should try to go from the TV through the GoVideo to the Protron?
Yep -same problem, but I bought mine for £18 at an auction, thought I'd done so well, but no warantee!! -Doh. Sound perfect from DVD, so not a scart issue. Tried factory reset / retune, no joy. Freeview silent. Warfdale, you used to be the best in the world; what's gone wrong? :(
This problem can often be caused by the DVD player software thinking it is in
a region different than your discs. (DVD discs are often encoded with
'region codes' meaning a disc purchased in Asia will not work in a
player expecting to see North American discs)
What can happen is
the player 'forgets' where it is, and your regioned discs won't play
any longer (region free discs should continue to work as will audio CDs
A power surge, random cosmic ray or similar flakiness can cause a player to 'forget' what region it was designed for ....
If that is what has happened you need to 'reset' the region code.
I can diagnose this, I have NO CLUE as to how to do this with a Protron
PD-800 DVD player. Anyone out there know how to reset the region codes
for this (or generically for a DVD player?)
The code I used and it seems to work is 0194, but while trying to program my receiver, It changed some setting and the picture keeps looping over and over on the screen, and I can't get it to stop, I even made it worse while messing with the settings....
