Question about Husqvarna Lawn Tractor 48" Deck, 23 Hp, Model# Yth2348

48" Husqvarna Loss of drive

I'm experiencing a loss of drive on my 48" Husqvarna. I've replaced the drive motion belt twice this season and have only mowed once since changing it last. Initially, it was better but it quickly got to the point it didn't want to move very fast at all. I looked in the owners manual and it said the hydrostatic transmission is serviced at the factory and sealed and didn't mention anything about a hydraulic reservoir yet i read another post where someone had mentioned servicing hydraulics. Any help would be appreciated. It has 300 hours

First of all, use only OEM belts48 from a dealer or in the case of Craftsman, from Sears or direct OEM replacement belts from a lawn mower2.gif repair dealer.

If you are using a generic "hardware store" belt, chances are you are getting a "fractional horsepower belt" which is made for low torque electric motors and they will not withstand the torture a lawnmower puts on them.
When installing the new belt, make sure all pulleys are clean and have no bent spots, burrs or cuts in them. Make sure that any idler pulleys spin freely and also make sure that you get them on the correct side of any belt guards.

The transaxle IS a sealed unit and is not servicable There are no parts available for it and no parts lists. Your only remedy is to take it to a dealer to have it replaced if it is indeed defective

You can go to this link, click on support and download a manual for your model number which gives belt routing, parts listings and a lot of good information pertaining to your tractor:

Try changing the drive belt, even a slight slip on the belt will appear as a loss of power.

Loss of suction

If it is not picking up from floor replace the belt. They need replaced at least twice per year because they lose elasticity and will slip when vacuuming floor. If it is loss of suction start by replacing filters. All filters should be replaced at least once per year on most vacuums

Will not move forward or back

either the drive belt which connects the crank shaft pulley to the top of the transmission pulley has failed, or the hydrostatic transmission has failed. the first is easy to spot, a broken belt, and fix; the second problem basically means you will spend more to buy a new transmission than another mower will cost.
