Troncho81:
Compatibility: make sure that your motherboard supports the new CPU you have bought. If you are sure it supports it then make sure you have the latest BIOS or any firmware from manufacturer installed.
I am assuming that you have seated the processor properly and it also has a fan properly working over it.
Hope that helped!

You did not specify which version of your motherboard you are using and what operating system. I assume that this will be some flavour of Windows.

Please follow to this page and selelct apropriate for your operating system and motherboards drivers here, as you stated (+) in your question, I assume that this will be version 7:

Hi can I and, is it worth upgrading to a pentium 4 extreme from a pentium 4 3.00 on an ecs 661FX M7 board. Is this my best option?

Hello
You can use a processor.with a LGA 775 socket type.

I do not know if the 4 extreme has this type of socket.

If your going to upgrade you may consider a new motherboard and the intel i series processor.

I give you a link to newegg you can do some looking around.
