Color separation ~ Insignia 32" NS-LCD32

1. Unplug unit from wall for 3 minutes;
2. Press & hold Power button for 1 minute;
3. Plug in unit.
OR:
1. Unplug for 3 minutes.
2. Plug in unit.
3. HOLD Power Button as unit starts ... hold until the unit flickers on then off twice.

This effectively returns the components to factory specs, much like resetting a computer. It offers a *temporary* fix, lasting 45 minutes to hours. All depends on the unit.

Mom has an Insignia 32" with the same color separation problem, which worsens as the day progresses. Best results achieved while television is cold.

Dust in the unit could contribute to the problem ... try to keep the unit dust free as possible.

HOW TO CONNECT

You have 3 options coming out from the DVD player:

1) Composite (Yellow, White, Red)
2) S-Video (Round and Black)
3) Component (Red, Green, Blue)

Composite is the easiest, as both video and audio are taken care of through the 3 connectors.

S-Video has slightly higher quality, but is largely outdated and requires a separate audio cable.

Component has the best quality, but also requires a separate audio cable.

If you have a composite cable (it should have come with the DVD player), then just hook up the Yellow/White/Red cable from the back of the DVD player to the same color connectors on the back of your TV.

S-Video and Component connect in the same manner (respective color to respective color), but you'll need to determine whether your TV can support a separate audio input or not.

My Toshiba cinema series HD separates the red & blue color.

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

The only connections that work are the component cables(color stream, RGB-Red, Green, Blue) which I understand is a better quality picture but the connections for my DVD player are RCA (Composite - Red,...

You'll need a DVD player that has component outputs. The composite carries the entire video information, while the component sends the three different color signals separately. The red and white cables are output cables. No all DVD players have the component outputs.

The blue filter is burnt out. A very common problem in Zenith DLPs. There are 3 color filters, 1 blue (a pinkish color), 1 green (a grayish brown) and 1 red (it is red) they give you your colors for you picture. This is a simple fix.

Picture separated on 1/2 of screen

This sounds like a convergence problem. This is a common problem that is usually fixed 98% of the time by re-placing the STK392-020 ic or STK392-110, and check the fuse devices on the covergence PCB. I'm sure the actual parts numbers depend on the peticular brand. Good Luck!
