Tv won't switch on following power being turned off/on by electrician installing external light

Have you tried different electrical outlets? Maybe the circuit breaker for your particular outlet blew when the electrician turned the power back on. Or maybe the electrician disconnected power to that particular outlet.

Also try leaving tv unplugged for 30 minutes or so, then plugging back in [to a known good outlet] to see if it will turn on.

Try unplugging it from the outlet for a 5 minutes, and try again. If that doesn't work - try plugging in a lamp to the outlet to make sure it works. You can also try connecting the TV to a different outlet (check fuses or circuit breakers). If you use a remote - change the batteries - or try using the power switch on the TV itself.

If it doesnt work - provide the brand and model of your TV.

RCA LED42C45RQ 42" LED LCD HDTV Shutting Off by itself

These flat panel tv's from china have cheap capacitors. Check to see if any capacitors have pushed up top, this indicates blown or dry capacitor. Replace with exact value, in the power supply area (is where they go bad). TV has a monitoring circuit, and if standby (or ready voltage) is not adequate, tv will shut off or stay in standby mode. Little tired today, so hope that gives you an adequate answer.

My DCT6200 cable box keeps shutting itself off and then turning back on. I have already tried resetting it by unplugging, but that has done nothing. Even after I have turned off the power and left it...

1) have you tried changing that box in that room to another and the box from the other to this room. That may give you an idea of either power or signal strength issue.
2) after it resets does a "dl" show up on the box front. if so it is trying to download a firmware/software update and everythime you power cycle it starts over.
3) turn the box off then hit select and go to option 8. there should be 4 modules enabled.
4) you may need a new box

Television will not trun properly

This sounds like a safety feature built into the television. It may be trying to protect itself from an unsafe electrical source. The more expensive the equipment, the more sophisticated the power supply that converts the power from your outlet into your television. There could have been a lightning strike that has disabled the tv. Or it could be a faulty outlet.
Before called for a technician, I recommend plugging the television into a different outlet. use a good quality extension cord if necessary. You may find that your outlet is not polarized correctly. Good luck.

TV shuts off by itself

I think that this might be a power supply problem. The VCR might be loading down the supply and causing the shut down. If you are going to try to fix this yourself I would shuuest you get a schematic and multimeter, and an oscilloscope, here is why, The schematic will tell you what voltages are normal, The multimeter will allow you to measure those voltages, the oscilloscope will allow you to test for ripple voltage which might be present riding on your dc voltage level. If you do not have access to this equipment or do not know how to use this type of equipment, I would suggest that you take the unit to a shop.
