Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).

My gogear does not recognize by my computer what should i do

What should I do if my player is not recognized by my PC?

Reset it. Use a pen tip in the RESET hole on the side of the player.
Connect the player to the PC to see whether the player is recognized.

Faulty USB port, try connecting the player to another USB port (or try another computer).

Is your computer Mac or Windows? eg Mac OS 10.7.2 had issues recognising media players that could be fixed by resetting PRAM.

Install Philips Songbird software and try Repair mode. Note this will delete files on the player.

The Philips GO-Gear unit is got stuck frozen?

Make sure the hol/lock is not engaged. As logn as it's not engaged, run the Repair in Philips Device Manager. If the Device Manager will not recognize the player: Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off.Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab.Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions. This will help.Good luck.

Every time I connect my Philips Go Gear into my computer, it tells the that the device is not recognized. It won't even charge it. I have had this MP3 player for going on 4 years, and have never had this...

I'd suggest that you do a soft reset of your player. You will find the reset button next to the 'power on' button on the side of the player. Please hold the Reset button using a pen tip or other sharp object for 10 seconds. Now turn it on.

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest that you restore factory settings or repair it Philips Device manager. You can install them from the CD that came with your player or download it from Philips support site.
*Contents may be removed by using this function. So make sure to back up your contents.

Repair using Device manager:
Launch Device Manager and click the Tool menu and select "Repair", then follow the instructions to perform the repair process. Make sure all other applications such as Philips Plug-in, Windows Media Player or Windows Explorer that access the device are closed or else Device Manager will not recognize the device.

You can download the Device manager from www.philips.com/support site.

Hope this works

Won't turn on

If your Dell Computer is running Windows Vista, it will not work with the Philips HDD series Go Gear.

If it is running Windows XP:
Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

If these methods fail, call Philips to see if you are still in-warranty.

When i turn on my mp3 getting error as " connect to PC and repair through device manager"

If you have lost your installation CD, go to Philips website and download/install the most recent version of the Philips Device Manager for your exact model #. Then open the Philips Device Manager and select the "Repair" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course).

If the Device Manager does not recognize that your mp3 player is plugged into the computer:

My go gear doesnt work

This is a way to force the PC to recognize the GoGear and solve your problem. Make sure the hold/lock switch is not engaged first. Note: These instructions only work for the SA6045 - if your Philips is a different model #, these instructions may or may not work:
