Question about HP Scanjet 8250 Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Document Feeder My HP scanjet 8250 scans perfectly from the flat bed but it will not allow to use the ADF (feeder). It keeps saying there is a paper jam when the paper is just sitting in the tray. The scanner had not even moved the paper. Any ideas? I have cleaned the rollers.

Re: Document Feeder

This sounds like a sensor failure - is it under warranty?

Constant jams and paper tears in adf

Problem is in mechanical parts in ADF especially in rubber rollers so best solution is to change them. In this link below you can find (Hewlett-Packard Roller replacement kit for automatic document feeder (ADF) - C9937-68001).

The automatic document feeder keeps grabbing the paper on one side and therefore creasing the paper so that it does not go through

Lift up on the ADF roller cover and look for a piece of paper. Remove the blue guide bar and the end where the paper flips under. If you can't find paper put the blue bar back and close the ADF (automatic document fee) lid. Lift up the flatbed scanner cover and look at the far left side to see a piece of obstruction. Clear that and try making a copy.

ADF paper jam, when there is none

If you are receiving an Error Code 103 or a Paper Jam error, but there are no pages in the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), follow the steps below:
  1. Close the scanning application (such as PaperPort)
  2. Turn off the scanner and the computer
  3. If you have a combination ADF with a Flatbed scanner, unplug the ADF cable from the base of the scanner
  4. Plug the ADF cable back in
  5. Turn on the scanner power
  6. Turn on the computer
  7. Try scanning again
For a Paper Jam or Error Code 103, make sure that the ADF cable in the rear is connected to the scanner base. Check the flatbed to make sure that it is clear. A page incorrectly placed on the flatbed may interfere with a page feeding through the ADF.

If your scanner stops scanning due to a paper jam in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), a warning dialog box appears after a few moments.

To clear a paper jam:
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Remove the jammed paper and close the cover.
If you are receiving a paper jam error, or if the scanner is running continuously, check to make sure the paper sensor arm is not stuck down.
  1. Open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.
  2. Look for the small black plastic arm
  3. When you press on this arm, it should move freely up and down
  4. If the arm is stuck down, please contact Technical Support for troubleshooting options
  5. Close the ADF cover.

HP Scanjet 5590 scans inmage on other side of paper on ADF Ok on flat bed

Really strange! May be the brightness is not controlled in the ADF mode, too bright to scan data on the backside also. Try reinstallig the software.

1- reinstall drivers

2- Use the WIA driver for Windows OpSys

3- Pay close attention to options in dialog box. Select ADF or Document Feeder as an option

4- Depending on the OCR application [personally I prefer PaperPort] the imaging process can be very eaasy or somewhat difficult

HP ScanJet 5590 automatic feeder not working

Have you tried scanning in the flat bed mode? Does it scan okay? If the image is good, then there is no problem with scan module. Check your page settings. If the page size selected for scanning is smaller than actual size, there can be some peoblems. Try and scan with max size. Check if the sensors are dust/paper free. A small piece of paper (The small round discarded piece from Computer stationery) in the paper sensor can create trouble.

ADF document feed

Hi, The problem seems to be a piece of debris , paper stuck in the ADF roller assy. You can check this by opening up the adf cover and inspecting the paper path. I have seen where a very small peice can cause paper path problems to where something is blocking the paper> Good Luck!
