Disk won't eject on my iMac

Hi, I have an iMac and the disk won't eject. It tries to, but then goes back in without coming out at all, if that makes any sense. The drive still reads the disk though. Can anyone help?

Ok, I assume you have hit the eject button on the keyboard. Try dragging the CD icon on the desktop to the trash can. If that doesn't work, Shut down the computer and start up while holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared. Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism. Another option is to open Disk Utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button. Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder. Another option is to Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray. Lastly if your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button. One of these should work.

We clean the system and the OS is down and the disc won't eject so we can put the recovery disc in.

You most certainly have a damaged dvd drive... you should change it.
http://www.pc-mob.com/images/dvdrw.jpg
the cost here in greece is 40 - 50 euros for a laptop dvd-rw depending of the connection (sata or ide).
take the laptop with you when you go to a hardware shop and they will change it for you right away with no extra cost.

Stuck CD

Hi,

Tricky one...

I've had success in the past by using a thin knife blade, or metal ruler (a medium sized pocket knife works well)... Stick a small square of double-sided tape on the blade/ruler... IMPORTANT! Very gently slide the blade/ruler into the slot, do so at a slight angle so you first clear the edge of the disk. Then gently, but firmly, press the blade/ruler down on the disk so the double sided tape sticks... now press the 'eject' button on the keyboard (or the go to Finder and select the disk and click the eject icon), at the same time try to gently wiggle the blade/ruler outward to assist in removing the disk!

Good luck!

Disk won't eject

Hi,

Normally all readers have a mechanical system that can be accessed from the front or the back of the reader to open using a small tool. Normally it's a little hole (like on smartphones) where you can insert a metal piece and push on it to eject the drawer.

How to get c.d out od a imac stuck

A few ways of doing this

1) restart mac and press down the mouse button after you hear the startup noise

2) if that does not work try opening up disk utility which is located in applications and then in the utilities folder and click on the icon of your disk under the left hand column then go up to eject button and click eject

3) or open up terminal found in the utilities folder within your applications folder and then type in
drutil tray eject and then press return

4) Finally what to do is try pick up your imac tilt the
imac to the one side and press the eject key and hopefully the effect of gravity will allow the CD to fall out.

However, I would say that DVD drives in all macs are a bit suspect and if
your macbook is still under warranty or under AppleCare take it back to the Apple Store and tell them that the DVD drive is faulty and they should replace it free off charge.

Hello
The noise is actually a product of dust from a blue ray disc.Over time these discs heat up and leave a residue on the blue ray lens.
Try using a lens cleaner to remove dirt and clean lens.
Also i read an article that using a wireless controler can also cause freezing of the blue ray.

make sure the cd is being inserted the proper way, the console will spit it out if its inserted wrong.

if that does not work, the cd catcher inside the console could be miss catching or broken. if the problem happens with other games, take it to your local game store as see if they can fix it, or if they can send it for a small fee to the manufacture to fix.

APPLE IMAC G4 - TRYING TO INSTALL OS WITHOUT DISK EJECT BUTTON

Reastart the iMac and at the same time hold down the mouse left click button. If that does not work.
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Immediately after the startup sound, press and hold the key combination Command-Option-O-F.
Note: The Command key has the Apple and (commandkeysymbol.gif) icons on it.
  3. Release the keys when you see a white screen that says "Welcome to Open Firmware."
  4. At the prompt, type: eject cd
  5. Press Return, then wait a few seconds. The disc drive should eject any disc that is present, and "ok" appears behind your command when the action is complete.
  6. Type: mac-boot
  7. Press Return.

Blueberry iMac with slot-loading CD rom drive will

It would be very difficult to open up the imac to retrieve the disc as the CD drive is totally enclosed and would probably result in it not be functional after removing the disk. Have a look at the following article on the apple website
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3007?viewlocale=en_US as it does indicate that the slot loading imac does have a hole for paperclip ejection. You could also try opening up disk utility and and clicking on the icon of your disk under the left hand column then go up to eject button and click eject. Hope this helps.

CD/DVD Drive Doesn't work

Hi, Sorry to hear you are having problems,
One final test to try before declaring the drive dead:
Insert a bootable installation CD or DVD and restart right away. If the system ejects the disk, simply re-insert it as soon as possible after you hear the start up sound and then, immediately press the ( C ) button on your keyboard forcing the Mac to boot from the cd....
If your Mac boots, then the drive is OK it's your system that has a problem.
If the disk is ejected again, then you can declare the drive dead. It is a relatively inexpensive repair and if your Mac is still under warranty, then apple will take care of this no charge.
Good luck
