Yes, recording in a room that isn't acoustically treat may affect the sound. There are a number of factors that determine the quality of the recording and acoustics in the room is one of them. This article explains it a little more. http://tobuildmyown.com/the-best-sound-absorption-material-for-recording-booths

Shure beta 57A ..low recording volume from acoustic piano ...Directly to laptop no mixer used

are you using an interface?
Your level will be always be lower if you are going straight in.
Your interface and mixer will help you get the correct level in to your system before recording and also shaping the sound after the recording. You just need to get more gain up in there

When i record thru my mxl genesis mic with the mixer i get like a loud distorton. Im using magix 14 ,and i have downloaded the audio driver off the disc that came with the mixer....Help

It is likely you do not have the levels set correctly and are over driving the mixer. Reduce the trim settings using the PFL buttons and monitor the level indicators to insure you are not clipping.

With a condenser mic you CANNOT have any speaker in the room that the mic can hear of course. These mics are so sensitive. Your mixer and monitor speakers and recording will be in a separate room from the soundproof studio typically.

To monitor the system anywhere in the same room as the mic you MUST use headphones that do NOT leak sound or you will get feedback and distortion.

My mircophone is not working on my MSI laptop

Hello Freshnoble, hi! try first the sound recorder program, for testing purposes, if you are using XP, it goes, start, all programs, accessories, entertainment, sound recorder. Shout on the mic, you should see wave pattern on the sound recorder program. if not. the problem can be hardware and/or software. If its the hardware, check the microphone, is the mic built-in or are you using an external mic? if built in, try to enable first the microphone, right click the speaker on the lower right side of windows, select adjust audio properties, sound, at this point you should see the sound recorder device, select mic volume and adjust it all the way. test again the sound recorder. If you did not reach this point, there is some thing wrong with the device driver, load the sound driver first and test the mic again.

Set up audio mixer with PC

You must connect:
the main out of the 1202fx, or the ctrl room out of the 1202fx at your power amplifier's input (if there is one)
the line in 11/12 of the 1202fx at your pc's audio card line out. (for playing back)
the cd/tape out of the 1202fx at your pc's audio card line out. (for recording)
in case of a cd, connect it's line out at line in 5/6 (or 7/8, or 9/10) of 1202fx's
some mic at the mic 1 (or 2 or 3 or 4) of 1202fx.
That's the way you're going to have control for:
the mic level from channel 1 (etc).
cd level from channel 5/6 (etc).
pc playback from channel 11/12.
master speakers from main mix or ctrl room.
All the above connections are not absolute and may vary depending on your needs.

In case of a problem or clarification about the connection or the cables, don't hesitate to post.

Recording conversations which mic to buy?

How many speakers?  In a room?  Outdoors?  What kind of recorder do you use?  What is your budget?  Hi Fi or just need to be able to recognize what is being said?
Depending on your setup you might try:

Solution one: lavalier mics like an Audiotechnica ATR35 on each speaker's lapel.
Solution two: a boundary microphone on the table, like Shure mx395.
Solution three: cardioid pattern mics pointed at each speaker (could also use a shotgun).
Solution four: one figure eight pattern mic put between two speakers facing each other (make sure the axis of the mic points at the two speakers).
Solution five: you could scrap your recorder altogether and get a Zoom H2, put all four channels on and don't thump the table.

I have a m-audio buddy using a mlx 990. I have this hooked to 200 ohm peavy amp. The problem is I can barely touch the gain on the pre-amp or the amp without getting extreme feedback.

It appears that the condenser microphones that are omni directional are too sensitive to process thru an amplifier. I used an mlx 991 directional condenser microphone and though still very sensitive, I was able to avoid the feedback. According to the company condenser microphones are used more for recording and not so much for live stage.

Recording with condensed mic and phantom

Some (very) basics with any live audio recording:
  • Have a very very quiet space in which to record, with good acoustics (this means a room that will give a flat sound, preferably one with carpeted walls and celings, but any small, well-furnitured room should do).
  • Do not mix with the interface. Simply put the gain as high as possible without clipping and mix later in your recording program (Cubase, in your case). You can always bring the level down, but trying to gain an already recorded track will introduce noise.
  • If you are recording vocals, use a pop filter. When recording anything, experiment with different mic positions to attain the best possible, clean sound.
