Question about GE E1030 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Lense will not retract, and I would like to send it for repair.

I do not know where to send it, and I would like to to know how likely it is to be repairable. I dropped it and it sounds like I stripped the gears.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Call the GE customer support line at 800.730.6597 and they can tell you everything about where and how to ship it, diagnostic fees, etc. They won't be able to tell you how MUCH it will cost to get repaired until they actually take a look at it, though.

As far as being repairable, it's always repairable, but it isn't always worth it. Whether it is worth it to fix it or better to get a new camera is a decision only you can make once you get a quote from them.

Good luck.

My camera lense is stuck out and when I turn on the camera it makes a funny noise and says "lense error" on the screen. Is there anything I can do to fix it myself before taking it to get fixed?

Sounds like the camera lens is jammed. Before you take it to become repaired, try cleaning the crevices of the lens module to make sure there isn't any loose dirt or debris in there. Try applying very gentle pressure to the lens and see if it retracts or moves.
If it still won't budge, it's probably an internal problem with the mechanism retracting the lens, there's not much you can do but send it off to get fixed.
Cheers!

The lense will not retract

Sounds like you need a software/firmware update. You may get lucky enough to find a download on the web, or you can send in to manufacture and they will fix it for $50

Zoom lense wont retract

The problem you are describing is a problem with something in the lens assembly of the camera. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $73.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

While turning in off softely press the lense in and out a couple of times. The lense would retract. If not fully, but most of the way, push the lense a little harder in until completely retract. If you turn it on, I should work fine. The reason the lense does not retract is most likely some dust in there somewhere. If it did not help, you would have to open the lense and clean it and close the lense.

I hope it helps,

Lens stuck

Solution:

The Lense is obviously jammed some how.

Suggestion:

Send the product back to the manufacturer and see if they can repair the product or send you a new one.

"lens error" on casio ex-z3

Sorry to say but a lens error actually is a problem that you cannot fix at home. When a lens error occurs, the motors inside that make the lens retract and protract were some how damaged, usually caused if the lens try coming out when you have it in your pocket or against a surface so it cant fully come out. You will have to send the camera in for service and you can do that by calling 1-800-706-2534, option 1.
