Komguy, Printer MP470 I get an error message that there is a paper jam on the outlet. Cannot see any pieces of paper or anything obstructing the printer.Printer will draw in the first sheet of paper for about 1 and 1/2 inch and then paper sheet will not feed any further but printer continues to run through its paces. Will not feed paper to copy from the internet or raising the cover lid and trying to copy a loose sheet of material. You mentioned that the sensor arm may be bent or broken inside behind the platen roller. Can these parts be seen from the outside or does the printer need to be disassembled to access these parts? What is the purpose of the platen roller. I see to small gray wheels next to each other on the right side where the paper is stacked, 2 white prongs about 2 inches apart and a white roller that I can feel with my hand and it spins free. Maybe there is a skematic somewhere that will show where these parts are located?

Have only occasionally had a paper jam an it was easily removed. Where is the sensor feed? Is it the 2 white prongs where the paper is stacked and the prongs are about 2 to 3 inches apart?.You can move the white prongs back and forth. Are you reffering to the 2 small gray rollers(one larger than the other) as needing to be cleaned? They look pretty clean. The larger gray roller is attatched to the end of 6 or 7 inch round white roller that can be rotated by hand. Can not seen anything broken or bend. When a piece of paper is pulled down into the printer and then stops its feed and the printer is going through the print cycle, the large gray wheel does not turn at all or feed the paper. Could it be there is some small piece of paper trapped somewhere deep inside the printer? Cannot see any paper obstruction in the long outlet roller and it turns fine when the printer is going through its cycle. Wish there was a diagram somewhere that I could actually look where these parts are located

Printer is about a year old

    Thanks for any further help.

Hi,

  • Turn off the canon printer
  • Hold the Resume Button (red circle in the triangle), add a printer (click “Power”) an indicator light green.
  • Hold the Power Button, release the Resume Button.
  • Not releasing the Power Button, double click “Resume” and release Both Buttons.
  • Click “Resume” for Four times
  • Once you click “Power”, to confirm the selected action (reset counter absorber). To disable the printer “Power” button to click again

  • Use a moist cotton cloth and clean the rollers with it. If still it doesnot pick the full paper the feed roller and sensor assembly is bad and needs repair or replacement.

    Hi,

The unit may have a paper jam or stuck object inside, if you have experience a paper jam error before, check the printer for any object or paper stuck inside, clean roller.

Some error like this can be a problem on the feeder sensor and by this time you may need to replace and repair the unit.

    Hope this initial info helps

Are you looking for help from someone specific? I am trying to find a schematic of this machine now for you. I assume you have already tried unplugging the machine entirely for a few minutes, then replugging?

    Thanks
    Tim

I have an error code 5100. It started grabbing the paper wrong and a piece got jammed. I removed it and then it says error 5100. I have turned it off and on a few times and it is still there.

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

Message ''The paper is jammed" appears even though there is nothing jammed.

    Hi,

To fix this kind of error, remove the ink cartridge and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it.Check if anything comes out.If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of card stock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there. Open up the printer and clean the insides with a soft cloth and a brush. That should remove all the bits of paper inside. The teeth on the roller sides may have some dirt stuck on them which does not allow the rollers to roll freely and hence is as bad as paper jam. The idea is that the rollers do not roll whether because of paper or some dirt on the roller teeth. They have to be cleaned.

    Thank you !!

I get an Error message that states "Paper Output Slot Jammed" and there is no paper or foreign objects in the printer at all!

That happens when the sensor arm is bent or broken, it's inside behind the platen roller, above the white guide plates. If you can see it look for scraps of paper holding it up, if it's bent or broken you need a shop repair.

Error message about a paper jam won't clear. There is no paper jam.

Unplug the power cord and data cable for a few minutes, then turn it back on. If that doesn't work, open every door, remove all paper and make sure there are no other obstructions (I once found a twist-tie in mine, so you never know).

    Paper jam

Use mirror and flashlight to look down paper feeder from the rear, gently pull paper toward the rear. An index card can be fed from the front to the rear to push paper out by turning the gears you see on the left side inside the front cover. Be careful not to force anything.

    Paper jam message

Check to see if you have a door in the back of the printer. Your jam could be there.
