Bulb issue w/ scanner?

I have a canoscan 8400F.

When I scan there is a strip along the length of the page that comes out yellow. It does help to calibrate 2-3 times but does not clear it up completely and must be done every time. I usually try o avoid that side of the scanner.

Do I need a new bulb? How do I go about ordering one and is install easy?

I have the same problem. Re-installing the drivers does not correct it. Can anyone help?

I have the same problem - new scanner, now setup to use and yellow one side, red the other, reinstalled software but no change. Tried all the calibration options although very few - NOT useable.

I have the same problem. I don't think it was there when I was running Windows 2000. Now that I have gone to Windows Vista on a new PC the yellow band is always there. I just tried installing 4.9 drivers for vista but no change??

Yes, I too have this problem - I have tried reinstalling the latest driver to no avail. There is obviously a serious manufacturer fault with these expensive scanners and perhaps Canon may be able to help....??

More likely a CCD/Firmware problem.
Try reinstalling the softqare, but if it persists replacing the scanner is the only option.

When set for scanning any color scheme, each page ends up with a large swath of yellow down the right side of the page. Does not happen in b & w. Canoscan 8400f - approx 4 years old.

if this happens even when you turn off all light in the room then your scanner is shot... if not then you have a light source interfering with your scanner

CanoScan 8400F

Try this:

Open the CanoScan Toolbox.
Click the Save option.
Put a check in the box that states "Display the Scanner Driver".
Click Scan.
Click the Advanced Mode tab.
Make sure Select Source is set to "Platen".
Click the Preview button at the top left.
If the error still occurs, then most likely it will be a service issue.

One thing to check...see if the inside lamp illuminates when you turn the scanner on using the power button at the back left side of the scanner.

Don't use Descreen. That is for scanning things such as Magazines that, when looked at very close, appears to have a lot of little dots that can cause a moire pattern when scanned.
