Emachine D2880-No Power

Left D2880 off, with powerstrip off, while on vacation for one week.
came back, no power, but green light on motherboard. switched outlets, cable and power source-no power. observed charred component on motherboard, took power source in to comp-usa, tested good. installed new motherboard-no power. have tested and swapped power switch, checked and rechecked all connections and swapped out processor with one that came from a running unit. still only get green light on mother board. tried to power up without dvd and another good hard drive, green light on mother board. could power source still be suspect
even though it was tested? noticed the guy only tested the lead to the
cd and hard drive, not the P8 lead to the mother board.
Thanks
Dan

Probably yes, the poiwer-source may be delivering "dirty" power (happens also when using a back-up generator, as in the power in the building goes out, or when used in an old RV, and the back-up kicks in) <--- is a safety feature to protect the CPU. Try also a different powerstrip, or head off to the neighbors and try their plug before swapping out the power supply.

In the end, you may wish purchase an inexpensive clone-tower, swap out the HD and processor (if you are spending too much time and money trying to band-aid the old one)

Hope this helps!

Emachine D2880 no power clarification

your getting power to your PSU, via the green light on your mobo.
verify the PSU has a green light(most emachines do)
it sort of sounds stupid but, check the connection of the cable coming from the front of the case(the wires that connect to the mobo to the power button on the outside of the case.

if all else fails, take the pc out of the case.. put all components on a static free bag and start to rebuild your PC(without a case)
...this will rule out a short on the PC case, and faulty wiring from the case...

pretty much sounds like you've been through almost every step except replacing the PSU(you just said you tested/but your getting power to the PSU)

hope some of this helped

Computer worked fine, unhooked it to hook up a new one, decided to hook the emachine back up to play games on, got it hooked up but it won't come on now. everything is hooked up right, i opened it up and...

make sure you hook everything with a little force especially the memory until it snaps back into place. same goes for all the cards. care should be give to the cpu, nice and easy. make sure your power supply is potential enough or has not gone bad. The MB can give a green light but there could be too little energy for the whole system.

Emachine won't turn on

With an Emachine it can be the power supply or the motherboard.

My guess it is the capacitors on the motherboard. Check to see if the round cylinders on the motherboard are bulging on the ends, and possibly rusty looking. Esp around the Main CPU/Fan.

They are notorious for bad capacitors.

If the caps look good, it still could be the motherboard, or maybe the power supply. Switcing out the power supply is pretty easy.

Unplug
disconnect all the power connectors
unscrew the 4 screws on the back of the computer
remove and replace the power supply.
Make sure you get a power supply with as much power, or more is much better. 350 watt or higher.

Computer will not turn on

Best way to check is to open your case. Near the power supply plug to the motherboard should be a little led light. If it is getting power to the board this light should be green. If it's unlit then most likely your power supply has gone bad. Hope this helps.

Sounds like either a short, or misconfigured cable connection.

EMachine T1440 will no boot on

There is a battery inside the pc, remove it and replace it with a new one. Leaving it unplugged for that long taxes the battery too much. This should help and also plug everything in and reset the power switch on the back.
