Re: r262 burn

R262 is a 51 ohm resistor. If it burned, there's a really good chance that other components are also defective.

you have to run power wire and ground wires to setup the amp.
you have to purchase a hi/lo adapter if you have a stock stereo.
like this:

or have a professional do it for you, or a friend that can do it for you. if you have no knowledge in setting up an amplifier you risk burning down your car, hurt yourself or someone else.

Amp want turn on

Listen everyone who is having any JL 500/1 or 1000/1 amps. There are many reasons why your amps have failed. Most of the problem is the power supply mosfets shorted out and output mosfets shorted too. Those are the 2 biggest problems when you run these amps hard. Also the main power supply capacitors and the gate resistors mostly burn out when a power supply mosfet shorts. Some people if they remove the back cover may see signs of of the problem area and others will not. I have been repairing these paticular amps at least 2 to 3 a week with other amps I get in. It seems that the older ones people bought working are now failing. So this is just a quick overview of what your problem is and is part or is the problem guaranteed. Sometimes I get tired of seeing them coming in but it's what I do and know exactly where to start. I don't know at this time but I think for $160 if you send your JL 500/1 to JL they will just replace the board. Don't quote me on that cause prices change. I would call and ask. My repair depending on the damage is around $80-90 to repair these 500/1. The 1000/1 can be the same or higher. I can't tell you if I don't have it in front of me diagnosing it. As I said though, the problems are basicly the same for the most part and the amp will have to be repaired. I help people also who are electronicaly inclined and if they feel confident and can unsolder and solder and know thier way around a volt ohm digital meter I can walk them through the steps. It's not that hard everybody, really it is'nt. A little confidence and soldering and reading a volt meter and you can repair your own amp. Contact me if you need any help. Thank you!

I hooked up my F300 and it played fine, a day later it started smoking so I turned it off and now the light on the amp stays on even when the car is off and no sound comes from the subs. did I burn up my...

  • Hi, I can help.

  • If you amp started smoking then something burned up. Weather it is easily repaired or not is the question.

  • I suggest opening the amp and see what burned on the board. Look for and chard blackness on any of the ports or anywhere on the board. I would double check your wiring connections to the amp as well. Make sure you don't have a short from that. Something definitely burned in the amp though.

  • If you get the cover open and see something feel free to post back here and I can try to further assist you. Much will depend on your electronic skills and ability to trace back the problem should this be needed.

  • Hope this helps and thanks for using FixYa

Regards, Tony

My amp started to smoke, and cut off,had a real loud burning smell, has not worked since.

Sounds like it was playing? If it was your voltage dropped and the mosfet power supply got toasted. These amps are notorius for burning up at low voltage. Kicker did not put a low voltage shut off on it.,

Everytime I start the stereo and turn the volume up even just a tiny bit I hear a few beeps the geen light flashes goes to a pinkish red color then back to green then shuts itself off. What do I do to fix...

If the amplifier isnt burned out, there is a good chance that one of the speakers is improperly wired, causing a short circuit. The amplifier is tripping the fuse to protect itself. These fuses **** themselves every time you shut off the unit. At very low volumes, the amplifier doesn't detect the short.

I'm fixing a vx2200d planet audio amplifier but it has a burend resestance and i can't see the colors. if someone have a schematic of this amplifier, please share it with me.

under the resistor ,there should be a value ,it may be silkscreened on the board . neighboring ones if the same size or opposite the burned one may have the value in stripes u can see , try ohm meter and check the burned one , it may not be "open" u can read it that way

Amp repair advice

check on the board to see if there is a resistor that looks similar, 90% of amps amps are matched in there design, meaning the left side is usally a carbon copy of the right, so if you look at one side and there is a resistor that looks like it's in the same spot on the other side, good chance thats the same one, read the colors off the one thats not burnt up. resistors come in different wattages,1/8,1/4 1/2 up to 10 watts, each wattage is a different size, most of the ones you see in the amp are 1/4 watt but some are 1/2 and 1/8. some on the output are 2 to 5 watt, but those are generally 10-18 mm in length, they are big ones you cant miss those. so once you get the color code, read the colors, ex red, gree, brown, last line is either silver or gold, that will tell you the resitor value. then google resistor color codes and then you can match the color sequence with the value codes, and that will tell you the value you need in ohms but then you have to get the size 1/4 watt resistors are generally about 6 mm in legnth, im measuring the actual part of the resistor not including the metal leads, just the body, so if its larger its probally a 1/2 watt if smaller its an 1/8 watt, 1/8 watt are about 4 mm. now go buy the resistor, but you might find it that tough, if its a common value radio shack might have it, but resistors are so cheap, pennies for a handful, good luck on your search.

How do I fix kick start lockup on a Baja 70cc motorcycle

if the kick starter is stuck that means the piston is probably stuck. Locked up the bike, pull the head off and look at the cyl.

Sorry I do not have a manual for you BUT you must always remember a resistor very rarly burns by its self as there is an underlying problen such as shorted output transistors or ICs Never ever just replace the ressitors and think that this is your only problen Please!!! Always do a static check on all diodes and transistors as well as the output Ics and diods and rectifyers as well.
