Loud Squeaking Noise kenmore gas dryer 80 series

There is a loud squeaking noise coming from the area the motor is located. The noise seems to be coming from behind the motor and it only squeaks if you turn in one direction. It sounds like metal on metal.
I have taken the dryer apart trying to find where the noise is coming from (unsuccessfully).then reassembled the dryer. The noise continues but the machine still works.
is it possible that the blower is making the noise, as it sound like the noise is coming from the lint trap tube.

You need to change your drum rollers. To get to them you take the dryer apart from the front not the back. There are 2 screws where the filter goes in on top. Then pull the top toward you and up. Then remove the 2 - 5/16 inch screws on each side of the front panel about 2 to 3 inches down. Then pull the front up and out. Then you will see everything. Replace the belt, drum rollers, and idler making sure to oil each as you re-install them. Then put back together and your on your way.

I take issue with this response. No mention of oiling in the Sears instructions. I believe that these are "Oilite" type bearings not requiring oiling. Who is going to go in and re-oil drum rollers periodically, anyway? Oil will be disappear relatively quickly, especially in the hot dryer environment. Also, insufficient information to actually carry out the repair. Much better info available on this particular issue at

if you are mechanicaly inclined it is not to difficult
can't tell by looking for noise - to confined of space
have to take the drum out first then get at the rollers one at a time
If one is noisy (just turn by hand and apply side pressure)
might as well replace both
if not rollers than look at the pressure idler that sits against the motor
and look at the plastic bushings that the drum travels on they are probably worn out
have fun

When we turn on our Whirlpool Supreme electric dryer, it heats up and dries clothes, but it is making a loud squeaking noise throughout the cycle...sometimes louder than others.

The squeaking noise can be caused by any of the following.

Location High:

Belt slipping on the dryer drum

Worn Drum seals but would sound more like a dragging noise

Location Low:

Belt tensioner pulley bearing frozen and the idler pulley shaft is spinning inside the belt tensioner assy.

Belt slipping on the motor bearing

Motor bearing is dry

Kenmore Dryer 110 is making a loud squeaking noise.

Only a few things will make that noise. The squeaking is caused by a moving part having trouble turning while rubbing against a fixed part.
  1. The idler pulley is worn
  2. The drum support rollers are hard turning on their shafts
  3. The felt seals at the front or back of the drum is worn allowing metal to metal contact while turning
  4. An article has fallen into the housing around the blower wheel and the wheel is rubbing on it.
Listen for the frequency of the sound. The drum rollers and drum felts will squeak at the frequency of the tub turning. The idler pulley turns much faster as does the blower wheel. Knowing this will help pin down the cause.
