Re: Toshibas are dieing on me.

How about if you boot with just the battery in? Does the battery charge? Possible solution include: remove and replace memory chips to make sure they are seated correctly. Check with a known good power supply. Almost sounds like a motherboard issue to me. Plenty of laptop problems are related to bad solder joints on the motherboard, unless you or someone you know can open it up and find a bad joint the only solution is mother board replacement. Try reseating the memory first.

My gatewaynv54 lap top will not turn on

Check the batteries, if that does not work get a screw driver set and open the laptop. If look to see if any part of the laptop is charred especially areas near the battery connections, or if any of the pins on the battery is missing. If the computer does boot then listen to hard drive *note what I would ask u to do requires another computer that has speakers and the most recent version of java installed.* go on the internet on the other computer and put this link in press the play button. keep your hard drive near u when it plays turn on your computer if your hard drive makes sounds similar to that sound clip then go to this link and it would show what your problem is.
if none of these help then I don't know what else to say other than good luck. :)

I have an MSI Wind U100 which was powered down without any drama but the next day when it switched on, the screen remained black and only the blue power light plus the Wifi and bluetooth indicators...

It is likely that the backlight went out on the screen. This model has an LED backlight and can be replaced. If you are mechanically inclined, you can purchase a new one on ebay or amazon and replace. If this is a motherboard problem, then it is likely not worth fixing. One way to tell is to see if the screen is completely black. To test, turn on the computer and go near a bright light source. if you can barely make out any image on the screen, then the LED backlight is bad. If the screen is as dark as it is when the computer is off, then it is likely the motherboard.

Laptop Pavillion DV6188eu doesn't start up

From what you are describing, the motherboard has failed. I would however like you to try a couple of things though. First remove the hard drive and see if the computer will go to the BIOS screen. If it does not, then the Motherboard has definately died. If you can get to the BIOS, then you might consider a hard drive failure, or your windows installation is so corrupt, it is causing this problem. I would however lean toward a bad MOBO....seems this model, the DV6000 and the DV9000 have serious cooling issues and tend to burn their mobos up. HP recently started updating the BIOS files for these models so the fans and processor run more efficiently to keep the laptop cooler.

Computer does not boot, blue on light lites up but

Now when you say blue power light, what are the rest of the lights doing, does the hard drive light flash, does the fans turn on, does the hard drive make it's spinning noise, if so you may just have a bad LCD inverter which is very common and about a 40$ part. you can test this by trying to hook the laptop up to an external monitor and see what happens.

Acer Aspire 5100 problem

You don't want to hear this I know, but your symptoms are very much like those of a computer in which the motherboard or processor has died. It is defnitely not the hard drive as you would still get a display and be allowed to go into Bios even if the hard drive was totally out of the computer. And missing memory would result in bios beeps indicating a faulty bios configuration, but all of that requires that the motherboard and processor be good. If they are not, you have the situation you are speaking about.
