About once a week these 3 year old UPSs (with NEW batteries) cause a computer glitch, apparently during a "self test cycle." Attempts to dukplicate the problem go nowhere. Substituting with a new (cheap) UPS eliminated the problem for over 8 weeks now and counting. I have noticed this condition before with this model and it's prededecessorss.
I suspect one of the (5) Song Chuan (chineese mfg.) relays on the control board has pitted and or bouncing contacts. Replacing all 5 relays on a guess seems like a wast of time and money. Any specific advice? Have you seen or heard of this behavior before?
The lack of a schematic makes this a questionable endeavor, and sending it out for repair of an intermittent condition is almost a guarnteed frustration.

- OH Well. I eventually found equivalent replacement relays on the internet; but no readily available supplier for those two brands. Looks like these UPSs will be relegated to NON-critical applications. Thes large UPSs are a lot more $ than the smaller ones.
Any body else out ther suffering from this situation.
I would certainly NOT send these out for repair, if this were me, since I agree that you will find yourself not only spending a lot, but may find no resolution for this problem without replacing the boards.. with the cost of UPS's dropping, and the importance of having a reliable Power Supply increasing, I would just replace the entire UPS with a proven, good Power Supply Backup...
Are you sure it's not every 2 weeks? I had this problem with machines shutting down that were running on smart ups 750's. By default, these ups' run a self test every 2 weeks. Using the sofware provided with the ups (or you can download from apc) you can change the self test to 'never'.
Note that this problem only happened on machines that were running on too low input voltage.
