What size exhaust pipe is needed for downdraft?

I am installing the cooktop with a telescoping downdraft on an island in the kitchen. I need to run the exhaust pipe BEFORE I install flooring and the cabinets. What size pipe do I need to run? The other thing, I am installing at 2 x 4 pony wall, do I need to run the exhaust through the wall or through the floor of the cabinet?
