I see two options. 1. Buy a new camera. 2. Have a professional camera repair person look at it and suggest repair or replacement. You may have damaged the lens beyond repair. If repairable it may cost less to get a new camera. NEVER let a camera near sand unless it is specifically designed for use under water.

The lens won't come out - it makes a buzzing noise but won't open. Like it's jammed?? Olympus FE-46

Hi.

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed. What you can try to do is spray some compressed AIR into the lens to try to free up any sand or dust that may have worked its way in. If that doesn't help, you can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.

or.......
You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.
Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.
Good luck and have a nice day.
Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

Lens will not extend when turned on message on screen lens error

Hi,

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed due sand, dust or may be due to external shock caused by dropping the device.
  • Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun around lens barrel. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on this will solve the problem.
  • You can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.
  • You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.

If motor is running but lens won't retract sometimes lens would slip off with the gear or break off a tooth in the gear when it gets dropped. Try to gently move the lens barrel around with the finger and see if it is moving, but if tooth or gear is broken lens will move once or twice then it will stuck again.

Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.

Thanks and have a nice day

After turning on, the lens opens and extends, then it makes a noise like thereis something mechanically sticking. After it stops making noise, there is an e18 on the LCD.

The e18 error is a lens error and it comes out if the lens is stuck. It happens for several reason, but it all boils down on how you store your camera. Sometimes, you might have sand in the lens.

I had the same problem before but it was because of the trapped moisture in the lens. If you constantly go out in the sun, it is best to have put your camera inside a bag. Also, dont sun bathe and go inside an airconditioned room too fast.

Canon S3 Lens Error

There two possible scenarios:

1. Sand particles got stuck in the internal lens mechanism. Try in remove them with compressed air, blowing it through the camera lens openings. If this does not work, then here are the bad news.

2. Either the lens internal gears are damaged, the ultrasonic motor is damaged, or sand particles are really stuck inside the lens.

It does not matter which of the three reasons are casuing the problem, but the camera needs to be opened by a qualified technician, defined thereason of the failure, and quoted the repair service, unless you are willing to do it yourself, but it requires a complete disassembly of the camera, and I don't recommend it unless you have the experience and skills in fixing electronic devices.

Olympus Fe-310, lens is messed. Possible sand in it but not sure.

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Coolpix lens opens retracts opens then closes again and lens error appears

Hello

When you turn the camera on the lens comes out and has parameters when extending to focus, if the lens does not open fully it sees a problem and then closes.

there are tiny plastic gears inside and may have chipped or a piece of sand got in causing the lens to jamb. "very fragile"

one solution is to ask a camera repair shop how much a lens mechanism would be to replace. (if cost is more than 1/2 of what you paid dont bother)

another solution is to have someone sell your camera on an auction site for parts, to make some money towards another camera purchase

Lens wont close

tryig to force it closed if sand is in it will do further damage. Can you gently extend the lens and jiggle it to see if any sand comes out. Most likely this fault needs repairing to open it up and remove the sand.
