Question about Marantz PM7200 2-Channel Amplifier

1 Answer

Marantz Amp I have a PM7000 ( I think). My system will be playing and all of a sudden you will hear a click and the music just goes off. Then in a few minutes it will come back on and this goes on and on. Anybody know what the problem is?

Hi There Jan6472,

It sounds like an overheating problem....You are playing for a while then click off it goes, then it cools down and clicks back on....
So please have a good look at your set up....do you have any cloth material doillies or books or magazines blocking the air holes on the top/back/bottom of the amplifier..
If you have please remove then to ensure that the air can circulate around...make sure thta there are small rubber feet on the bottom, to lift the amplifier off the cabinet its sitting on...
Sometimes these feet get removed for some reason and the air cannot move up thru the electronics in side....

If all this is OK then its another cause for overheating, inside the electronics and there is no simple solution other than a repair shop job....

Cheers From YUBEUT

Hello,

Do you hear the relay click when you turn the unit on? If not you have a issue with one or both amps. If you do get a relay click, check your pre-amp out/main amp in connections on the back. You may want to also play with your controls, dirty controls can cause this condition as well. If you would like to have the unit serviced, check out my website, I have a lot of experience with the vintage Marantz units.

Thanks

Willie

laser cleaning cd's very rarely work. the only thing they are good for is if there is a build-up of dust on the lens. Sounds like you most likely need to have the laser replaced.

Marantz SR 3001 won't turn on

Check for shorted speaker wires - if none found, disconnect speaker / select headphones and see if you hear music thru the headphones. If not - you may have burnt out power transistors, etc.

Hi Saik,
I think problem is caused by unplugging the jack before pausing/Stopping the music.
1) Plug in a headset into the jack
2) Open up a media player (either the MP3 player or any online music)
3) Begin to let the music play.
4) Stop the music from playing after a few seconds
5) Completely exit out of the media application.
6) With the headset still plugged in, wait about 15-30 seconds. (this is so that the media/pandora app task can "fully" stop from running)
7) Unplug the headset.
The phone should now be able to emit sound from the earpiece.

If the above does not work, other methods I have read tell you to plug in a headset & play music. While the music is playing, quickly remove & insert the headset into the jack (not too rough so if doesn't break anything) until you hear the music coming out of the speaker.

Finally, if you still have the issue, try rebooting. Turn off the Phone, Remove the battery completely and reinsert after 30 seconds. Turn on the Phone.

Hopefully that should fix the issue.

AVR SR6004 switches off while BD player is playing. What do I do?

Hi,
There are two circumstances that I know of that a properly installed unit such as your Marantz would shut down. So here is the Theory and Data I know of.
A Your receiver has a great deal of amplification power. If it is in a closed cabinet without excellent ventilation, it will shut down if used at high volumes because because over heating. Because of it's very high power, when played loudly, it generates excessive heat.
When watching certain movies the BD player may be over-driving the limits of the amplifier section of your receiver. Page 78 of your owner's manual addresses this. Here is a link to download the manual from Marantz.
http://us.marantz.com/us/Support/Pages/Manuals.aspx
B There is one other very important thing I should mention to you. When people use high powered equipment and initially turn up the sound. After a short time, the mind turns it down. What next happens is the reason professional musicians and sound engineers often have permanent hearing loss after a relatively short time.
What tends to happen is that the listener and often the engineer running the sound mixing board at a concert(after a certain period of time) believes the sound is not loud enough when it really IS loud enough. (this tricks the audience as well) and engineer turns it up. After turning it up, his mind (and the audiences') turns it down mentally and they again think and agree that it not loud enough and then again, the volume level is turned up. And up. And up. The only reason I'm not deaf is that I discovered this when I was building sound systems as a kid. I also studied about it. So please be careful when you play things loud. Permanent hearing loss starts to occur at the very high frequencies and rolls down from there over a period of time. Hearing loss can start to occur in just a few hours at 110 decibels. permenant hearing loss is exactly just that. Permenant! It just doesn't come back. If you use this information, you will enjoy hearing music for the rest of your life.
I hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

I have the same A/V receiver and in my setup there is an audio output (red and white able) coming from DVD player directly into Zenith Z763B. The video from DVD Player goes to TV input (yellow cable).
There might be alternatives to the setup mentioned above but I like to watch movie in a surround sound, rather than output from TV.
