Problem, please help

Just recently bought a new philips 42PFL5332D/37. It has been an open item so somebody has returned it. I was promised the TV was checked and works properly. I found a problem, after turned on the set, and press on the "source" button on the remote ctrl., the screen showed nothing, a few seconds later, audio came out, but the screen still nothing, used remote control to do something, press on all the keys, only could see the blue power LED light blinking, but nothing showed on the screen, only power on and off worked, then tried to turn back on and off several times, finally got the picture, what is going on with the new TV? should I upgrade the fireware? any ideas?
P.S. I have noticed that unpluging the electrical cord from the unit sometimes reset the system and everything is back to normal. I just feel is not normal for a new TV so have to reset it once a day.
Thanks a bunch

If the set is in warranty contact Philips @1-888-744-5477 and let them have a tech to come out and fix the set. But I would try to return it to the store first for a replacement.

The unit should be under warranty. What you're describing is not normal and I would attempt to get a replacement from the place of purchase or take the unit to an authorized repair center. Below is the Philips support page for your unit. You can check warranty status as well as request repair.

Tv will not turn on. Makes on going clicking sound only. That is the most likely cause of your problem.

Inverter board blew out

This is a common problem for this kind of TV.

You just put in a new PCB master and slave board.
Or use a repair-kit and replace the defected parts on the board.

Master - 6632L-0470A PNEL-T707A KIT63

Slave - 6632L-0471A PNEL-T708A KIT63

As used on the LG / PHILIPS LCD PANEL TYPE: LC420WU5

Examples of models that use this panel:

• PHILIPS 42PFL9900D10

Are you sure the board you received is good? should have bought the board from shopjimmy, then they would have worked with your fixing your set.

I have just bought a brand new remote for my Phillips 42 inch LCD tv from a reputable phillips website as the old one was not working (I recently bought it from my mate and his kid had eaten the on button...

Sounds like the IR sensor in the TV may be faulty, since you have now tried a couple remotes. Make sure nothing is on the IR sensor like tape, plastic, etc. IR sensor repairs are a fairly cheap and easy repair that can be done at your local tv repair shop. If you are still in warranty you can call Philips and tell them that you tried 2 remotes (1 brand new) on the TV and neither work. They should offer you a repair option. If you have any questions regarding your Philips warranty let me know.
