Acer Crystal Eye Web Cam

I faced the same question as I bought an Acer notebook not a while ago. Recording video via Acer Arcade Deluxe software worked but I found it too cumbersome. After short search I found two simple, but decent FREE programs for webcam video recording that worked for me:

* Debut Video Capture (http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/)
* STOIK Capturer (http://www.stoik.com/products/Capturer/)

i 've had the same problem. The solution is so interesting:) Just remove all pictures from MY PICTURES folder. That's all!

what is it with Acer, I am having the same problem with the Crystal Eye Camera. I have gone through all the solution offered in these pages and did this before contacting Acer. The first reply I got told me to download the drivers after telling me to get rid of the pictures, but I had already done this through reading these pages. They spoke of discs that should have come with the Notebook but have failed to produce these. Now they have left me high and dry and the Notebook is only 9weeks old
The camera works for a few hours when I download the drivers then stops again. Now it has stopped working all together. Any idea folks.

It's an easy fix. If you still have the stock Vista installed on it, or even XP, it's a simple installation.

Go to acer's site, ---

This is a global driver guide to their products. Since you have the acer 5520, you will choose

Notebook, and then Aspire 5520.

From the right hand menu, find the correct driver.

Once you find something along the lines of "Webcam driver" click on it to see if it fits your operating system. You'll see a menu pop up at the bottom, it will say ;

Operating System: X

Where X can be, XP, XPx64, Vista, Vistax64. The x64 would signify that it's a 64 bit operating system. Whichever you are using, (it's probably just normal XP, or Vista) Just find whichever matches your system.

Once you click on DOWNLOAD, it will pop up as a download. It will be downlaoded as a zipped folder. It's pretty straight forward. You run the install.exe or w/e exe that comes in the zipped folder, and bam. You'll be able to see your webcam if you open up My Computer. It'll be there as a device towards the bottom.

PS: as for what happened to cause this, I really don't know. Conflict of drivers? Maybe installing a video card or maybe even a BIOS upgrade, or maybe if you have kids or pets that like to climb on your laptop and demand petting...anyway, it could be a number of things. I hope this info helps.

I haven't touched a single setting in my computer but I went to connect to a web conversation and my computer simply says "Camera not found". Its not even there in the hardware. What may have happened and how do I fix it?

Sorry ppl, I think the cable of the webcam Crystal Eye on Acer laptops is broken. Is 2 solutions:

1. if is in guaranteed go to shop and tell to change or fix the webcam (cable).
2. Go to shop and buy a extern webcam on USB.

This is only for ppl who show message like: " Camera not found ", or try to go on Device Manager and see if is in the list. If no, then is broken the cable or webcam is down.

The only thing I did with my laptop was to reinstall my vista and install the camera driver and the video card driver after restart your computer it will work...

i had the same problem, i have an acer aspire one series zg5 with a built in webcam. ive had it for about a week and my computer stopped recognizing my cam. i tried everything from removing pictures to downloading new drivers and nothing worked. finally, after having having my father take a look at it, the solution was simple. the camera is very fragile so if you arent very careful with your computer, your camera can get disconnected very easily. all i had to do was squeeze the top of the screen to the right of the camera (it may be diffrent on your model) and i heard a snap, like something had been connected. sure enough i checked and my computer recognized the cam. you may have to reboot. my camera is working as good as new now. every once in a while i have to reconnect it again, but its very simple and easy to do.

My solution was to click on the start menu and select the Acer Crystal Eye folder that contains just an uninstall option - use that and the camera works again, without even having to reinstall the drivers.

I guess I already found the workaround here. Just enable and disable the acer crystal eye webcam in the device manager under imaging devices. And that's it! Use your instant messenger app and test the webcam. it should be working.

Camera not found,Problem capture video? Simply start your webcam,see at the bottom your screen,at the notification area,there should a red icon of ffdshow video decorder. Click at the icon,and the ffd show configuration setting .Click at the Direct show control,enable the check box in front of dont use ffd show. Simply add the acer crystal eye webcam.exe on the list.Sure,this work!

Throw out your acer notebook, its filled with great trouble! Its the only and best solution!!!

well i had the same problem,,but not anymore
first you have to go to the star bottom ,, chose all programs find the folder acer crysal web camera
open it up and clik unistall
after that,,,,,go to the computer open drive c
go to programs files,,you have to find the folder suyin,
if is not there go to folder windows when you find it just delete it

after that you have to find the file that says suyin
download it an install

I own a Acer Aspire 4310 with a integrated acer crystal eye webcam. Whenever I opened it says "camera not found". For three days i have browsed the internet and in this thread searching for a solution. At last I found the solution:

1. Uninstall all acer crystal webcam program in the control panel add/remove program.
2. Download the program Camera-(Suyin driver)_Acer CrystalEye webcam_5.8.31.500-WHQL
3. Install the program using winrar
4. Shutdown for a minute
5. Open the computer
6. Go to my computer, then manage,device manager. See if the computer detects the imaging device (Acer Crystal Eye webcam)
7.Still in the device manager, go to services and applications
8. Go to services then look for Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing
9. Left Click then properties
10 change the startup type into automatic
11. Try it in your yahoo.

My hint is that the Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing is with conflict with the acer crystal webcam. By turning it automatic, it enabled the acer crystal. Try this first before going to the procedure stated above. Test also if it will apply to other acer products

Oh for Christsake, people make it so hard. Download a driver, either from Acer's homepage or just google "Acer crystal eye webcam driver". Simple as that. If that doesn't work, go read the other 18 solutions.

go, control panel, manage devices, find your camera in the list, double click it, go general, activate device. done.

go to cnet.com. Type in Web camera assistance software in the search box and hit enter. Or search for AWC-PYS.exe and download. It will download to your C/program files/acitve webcam.
Open by going to Start/programs/py software/active webcam. It worked wonderful for me! I have an emachine E620 notebook and did everything for 16 hours trying to figure out how to make this thing work, including calling customer support! Enjoy

none of these solutions works for me
the website wont let me download anything (file not found or it just downloads, finished the dl and then there's no file!)
i've tried uninstalling, and now the uninstall option is gone, but the camera link is still there and still doesnt work so now it's even worse

lost my drivers for my web cam

Well guys yesterday i faced the same probs tried everything from delting the pictures folder, reinstalling the drivers, restarting the laptop thrice, banging the LCD twice ( dont do that!!!) , checked all the services, checked in device manager as well and no sign of acer crystal cam. i went one step further and did a system restore as well but still it was not working.
The solution is check and see if u ve any other imaging device connected through a USB port like a printer or scanner or a digicam. If you have jus disconnect it and use ur acer cam ! I am sure this could be helpful for a few of u ! I guess there is some issues with this laptop not able to read to imaging devices at one particular time ! cheers ! €

I Got it, finally my camera has been recovery...The way is simple :
First, you must clean the pictures on my pictures.
Second, you must choose right type of acer crystal eye webcam ( there are Bison, Suyin, and Chicony ), if you choose the false type then your acer crystal eye webcam software will say "Camera not found", of course you must choose the right type of your webcam software.
Example : My type of acer crystal eye webcam is Bison then i will choose preload.exe on the CD that Acer brought to you and try to install setup.exe and uninstall the past driver on start menu. After this, my webcam still working without any problems. Thx for all people in this web that sharing the solve of acer crystal eye problem.

Listen up! I recently brought my acer aspire 6920 into the shop cause my built in crystal eye cam was not connecting... and the guy in there told me he had tons of ppl coming into the store with the same problem... and he told me that he looked online and found that with acer computers, you sometimes need to clean out ur pictures folder... so just makes a new folder titled pictures 2 or something... and try connecting while the pictures folders is empty! :) Good Luck!
