Question about Microwave Ovens

Maytag Microwave MMV5207AAQ

We have small holes burned into the liner finish all around the metal rack. In looking at the metal rack, it has burn marks as well. Is the microwave safe to use and how can fix this problem? I had a repair man come in and he wanted to paint over the burn area and sell me a new rack. Is this a common problem with Maytag?

Food spots are not the problem. Our oven is very clean. The only food spot found were at the very top while all the burn marks were around the rack. I have had several microwave ovens of various brands, including GE and never experienced this problem! Our GE oven even had a metal rack in it 100% of the time.

Please try again, this is not very helpful

We have a very clean oven and food/oil spots do not appear to be the problem. It may be a faulty rack, don't know what is causing the rack to break down if this is the case. If the rack is faulty, why doesn't Maytag provide a recall and provide new racks for these ovens? Would be interested to know the cause as it's not food spots!!

It seems to be a problem with many microwave ovens that support the metal rack. Microwaves are not perfect for the metal rack and often causes pitting in the metal where it gets too hot. You can get the racks redone but looking for a new one may be cheaper. Some racks have a better coating on them.

Its common to all ovens! causes are food spills and oil spills left uncleaned! painting only might fix the problem for a while, but it won't give you a lasting service!!

! you should buy a new rack for much safer use!

keep in mind also to clean the oven after every use! (let it cool first of course!)

food has different chemical composition and during cooking a lot of chemical reaction takes place!

burn marks happen to where droplets of liquid heated up to a very high temperature! it can't be avoided of course as food discharge some liquid during cooking but you can minimize it and extend the service of your oven!
you could wrap the food you are to cook with a thin aluminum foil to minimize liquid discharge directly to the oven/rack.

as with your present rack there's nothing i can suggest!
Painting as i said earlier could make your oven look new but it won't last long!

its best if you buy a rack (measure the dimensions of your rack and you could ask for other brands of rack if you hesitate to use maytag's rack!)
    wrap your food with foil.!!!

Pry off plastic tab. Clean up burn marks with sand paper and touchup paint. Order a new rack clip. Also clean any burn residue off rack.
MOST IMPORTANT: After the repair, do not put the rack back in unless you are cooking on it. Running the microwave with nothing on the rack is what causes this to happen.

A plastic container with hidden piece of metal caught fire in my Sharp r1490 and burned with a big flame. Several small holes were burned in the ceiling panel. Are we in danger of radiation exposure/ is...

The microwave oven is not safe to use, the fire has compromised the interior of the oven, if you run the microwave it will start to arc and eventually short out the magnetron, because the white enamel paint has been burned away. If you have holes in the ceiling there is danger of radiation leakage, for safety reasons the oven should be replaced.

Arcing inside and there is now a small hole on the panel side. Is this fixable?

Hi,

It looks like there's lightning (arcing) inside my microwave When you see arcing inside your microwave, it's because of food or liquid left in the cavity or on the wave-guide cover:

  • If the wave guide has any burn spots, replace it and clean the unit well.

  • If the cavity has any burn spots, spot-sand it smooth and touch it up with microwave interior paint.

Note… If there are any burn holes in the cavity, don't use the unit-seek help from a qualified appliance repair technician.

Thanks for contacting Fixya

Burnt hole in microwave

Is the hole actually bigger than it originally was or is it just empty because the rack support got burned up & discarded?

The rack supports / rack holders can be ordered. The part number is WB06X10140 (or WB6X10140) and they're less than $5.00 each. You can find them in stock here.

If you install a new rack support in the hole, then any gap or hole around it can allow grease to accumulate, and that can lead to arcing. But you can seal it safely & easily.

Once the support is installed and everything is squeaky clean and dry, you can apply a small amount of silicone caulk into the gap or hole.

Let it dry it overnight with the door open, then use a razor blade or X-acto knife to gently trim away any excess caulk.

That would be a really good fix.

Maytag Microwave MMV5207AAQ control problem.

Nuke, Sounds like your touch pad is going south. Why dont you kill the power, drop the control assy. and unplug the ribbon of the control panel to the board. Take an eraser and clean the ends of the ribbon where it connects to the board. Put it back in and see if that made a difference. If not I would suspect it's the touch panel. The part number I have for this is 53001508. Good luck.
