Re: computer cann't recognise hdd

The major cause of this problem is ur hard disk may have many bad sectors . its time to replace ur hard disk . i think the message when booting is " boot disk failur or something "

I own a emachine w3622 and changed the hard drive. The computer reconizes the new hard drive but when I go to use the operating system disk that came with my computer says disk boot failure. Not only that...

The disk that came with your system is a recovery disk only. You will need a full installation disk from your local retailer or you can match the OS from your old HDD and use the serial key on the side/back of your machine. If you just wanted more space, install both drives and set the original one as the boot drive. the new drive, if properly installed (refer to your hdd instructions and jumper settings) you will see the second drive under "My Computer" as additional storage

I replaced the Power Supply on an emachine T1100 and labeled the connections for P1, P4 and P6 so I could put them back. The fan came on, but the computer didn't start up. I can't find a place for the...

Forgive me if my first (educated) guess may be off, but the 4-pin connector for which your can't find a connection may go to your
system disk hard drive - all Emachine towers have a HDD (hard disk drive) bootable system disk - and it needs power to allow your T1100 to boot.
The system disk (your only bootable hard drive) is hidden (a little) in a metal enclosure in the front of the tower. The T1100 has a 20GB HDD, and in the "My Computer" display, it appear as "Drive C:", and is powered by a standard 4-pin power connector.

Am trying to reistall Win XP. Have run Fdisk and reformatted HDD. PC will not recognise install CD, keeps coming up with errors, does not find CD or HDD. Hav also tried running setup from floppy, again...

IF the hard drive is a SATA hard drive, you will first of all need to download the SATA drivers for te motherboard and copy them to a Floppy drive on another computer if yours will not work, this may also affect why it is not "seeing" the Cd drive if this is a SATA one too

Try installing Windows and when the message " press F6 if you want to ...." appears, have the floppy inserted in teh floppy drive so it can find thr SATA drivers, it will then recognise the Hard drive and install

If you have further problems please repost

Wont recognise HD, have to disconnect DVD drive and floppy drive to force it.

While it can be a faulty hard drive, please make sure you have checked the following:

  1. Update BIOS.
  2. Check if Master/Slave jumpers are set. If you have DVD and HDD (hard disk drive) on the same cable, set HDD to Master and DVD to slave.
  3. Check that the Floppy cable is correctly connected. If connected wrong, the light remains on.
  4. One or both DVD and Floppy are faulty.
When the PC starts, BIOS checks the integrity of components in a sequence, if one component is damaged it will stop and give an error. Like say the HDD comes after floppy and DVD. if the DVD is faulty, then it will hang at DVD and not proceed to HDD.

My computer starts but no hardrives found what is it >

It very well may be that the HDD (hard disk drive) has failed. If you are running windows, you can try running system repair or try chkdsk /r from the command prompt, both available on the windows disk; however you may need to take the machine to a qualified technician if you are not comfortable performing these tasks.

I have just bought a new HP Pavillion M9790A, it comes with one hard disk. I need to install an additional hard disk.. how do i do this please?

First of all make sure what kind of Hard drive you use, It will be either SATA or IDE . To add additional HDD, open computer tower and you will find connectors are available to plugin your new Hard drive else you can follow your computer manufacturer's user guide.

The better option would be to take help from someone who knows how to add new HDD.

Hard drive not working

OS does not matter how many HDD you have.
But OS must be put on your master HDD, b.coz when you put two HDD in a system one must be mater and another the slave.
There are Jumper settings in your Hard Disk to make one master or slave. Set this setting and then try to boot.

If you can tell me what you have in each disk, regarding OS, it will help me to give you proper support.

Ask Me for more details.

Media Test Failure, Check Cable.....

This is an Invalid / Non System Disk error. In your Bios settings change the "First boot device" option to your hard disk.If you have only one hard disk set it to "HDD 0"
Other causes of the problem are:

  1. Floppy or CD that is not bootable is currently in the computer.
  2. Hard disk's power or data cable is not connected properly(loose contact)
