I can tell you the sidekick 3 will not operate properly with out a back cover. In fact, if you remove the rear cover while powered on, it will post a warning message on the screen. Because you tested and successfully operated the phone with out complication with a back installed I fell confident you should have have any problem with the phone when your back cover arrives.
Those phone are dependent on T-Mobile data services using Edge, GMS, and GPRS networks only. You can get the phone unlocked by contacting Nokia tech support but there is no guarantee that all features will be available by your provider.
