On a Satellite 1415-S115 You will have to open up the clam shell and remove all of the B25 and F6 screws from the bottom, as well as the B16 and B6 screws under the keyboard. To remove the keyboard, pry up the trim piece that holds the power button with a sharp nife a stanley blade is always usefull remove the three screws. mind the wireless wire leads there a pain.

The CMOS battery will be under the right side of the hand rest, next to the mouse. It has two leads and the battery is in a blue bag.

simply replace the battery and reassemble your laptop.

Bios password locked im my toshiba 1415,S173 ,how can I resolve

To prevent a thief from using your computer, the only way to "reset" the password on a "notebook" computer is to find your original sales-receipt, and to telephone Toshiba, and get them to help you.

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1415-S173 with a bios password I don't know (original owner is deceased). How can I bypass or remove?

Remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard. Turn it over, open it up, and look for a little watch battery.

Boot via LAN

The wake up on LAN is usually setup from the BIOS configuration.
If you BIOS doesn't have this option then it is not possible.

Not boot from factory CD -where is CMOS battery?

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Based on your post/description:
  • Toshiba Satellite 1415-S173;
  • new HDD;
  • would install WinXP.
Your concerns are:
  • media/cable fault;
  • CMOS battery;
  • laptop battery.
  • will not complete format;
  • will not install OS (WinXP).
Proposed course of action and other ideas:
  1. double check the new HDD, verify that the pins are not bent and are seated correctly. If all else fails, return the new HDD and have it replaced;
  2. try partitioning/formatting the new HDD in another PC using a 2.5 IDE to USB external adapter;
  3. clean the lens of the DVD/CD ROM drive;
  4. remove the dead laptop battery and use only the AC power when installing;
  5. most current laptops do not use a CMOS battery;
  6. if you want to revert CMOS/BIOS settings to default, it could be done by pressing on ESC or F1 or as indicated in the display (depends on the version) and set all possible settings to default. Verify that it is set to boot from the CD drive.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
